The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially successfully concluded the registration phase for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026. This national-level entrance examination remains the essential gateway for students seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical courses in premier institutes across India. As of 18 March 2026, the primary application portal has transitioned from receiving new submissions to the data verification stage. Millions of medical aspirants have completed their profiles, making this one of the most competitive years in the history of the examination. The agency is now preparing to open the correction window, allowing registered candidates to rectify any minor errors in their submitted forms.

Correction Window and Form Rectification

The National Testing Agency will soon activate the online facility for application correction. This period is vital for candidates who may have entered incorrect details regarding their category, medium of examination, or preferred exam cities. Candidates should note that while most fields are editable, certain primary data points like the registered mobile number and email address cannot be changed. The agency emphasizes that this is a one-time opportunity, and no further requests for modifications will be entertained once the correction window closes. Applicants are advised to log in to the official portal using their application number and password to ensure all uploaded documents, such as photographs and thumb impressions, meet the specified standards.

Examination Schedule and Admit Card Details

The NEET UG 2026 is scheduled to be conducted as a pen-and-paper-based test in May. The examination will be held in a single shift across hundreds of cities in India and several centers abroad. To ensure a smooth conduct of the test, the NTA will release the City Intimation Slip approximately two weeks before the exam date. This slip allows students to plan their travel to the allotted city. The official admit cards, which contain the specific venue address and exam day instructions, will be available for download just a few days before the test. Candidates must carry a printed copy of their admit card along with a valid government ID to the examination hall.

  • The entrance test will follow the traditional offline OMR-based format.
  • The duration of the examination is three hours and twenty minutes.
  • Question papers will be available in 13 regional languages besides English and Hindi.
  • Strict security protocols, including biometric attendance, will be followed at all centers.

Eligibility Criteria and Participation

To participate in the NEET UG 2026, candidates must have completed their 10+2 education with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects. The National Medical Commission oversees the eligibility standards, ensuring that all future doctors meet the required academic foundation. This year, over 600 medical colleges will participate in the centralized counseling process conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The results of the examination are also utilized by state authorities for the 85% state quota seats. Aspirants are currently in the final stretch of their preparation, focusing on the NCERT syllabus which forms the basis of the entrance test.
