The super-specialty medical admission cycle is advancing through its second crucial phase. Following the completion of the first round of admissions, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has activated the Round-2 registration and choice-filling process for NEET SS 2025. This stage is a critical opportunity for medical professionals aiming to secure seats in Doctorate of Medicine (DM), Master of Chirurgiae (MCh), and Doctorate National Board (DrNB) programs across the country.

The counselling process is designed to fill vacancies in premier medical institutions, including government, private, and deemed universities. As the window for registration remains active, the focus for thousands of specialists has shifted to strategic choice filling, which will ultimately determine their final seat allotment.

Active Registration and Choice Filling Window

The Round-2 registration link was made available on the official MCC portal in the final week of March. This window allows both new candidates and those who participated in Round-1 to enter the allotment pool. New applicants are required to complete their profile registration and pay the mandatory security deposit. Those who previously registered but did not secure a seat or opted for an upgrade are only required to submit a fresh set of choices.

The choice filling facility is currently the primary activity for aspirants. This process involves listing preferred branches and colleges in a specific order of priority. Testing authorities emphasize that candidates must be meticulous during this phase, as the system will automatically lock choices by the scheduled deadline if not done manually. The quality of these choices is paramount, given that over 6,500 seats are currently under consideration for allocation in this round.

Seat Matrix and Vacancy Trends

The publication of the Round-2 seat matrix has provided a clear picture of the remaining opportunities. The matrix includes "Clear Vacancies"—seats that were never filled in Round-1—and "Virtual Vacancies." Virtual vacancies refer to seats currently held by candidates who have expressed a desire for an upgrade. If these candidates are allotted a higher preference in Round-2, their previous seat becomes available for other applicants in the same cycle.

Transition to the Seat Allotment Phase

Once the choice filling and locking window closes, the MCC will move into the technical processing phase. During this period, the merit-based software evaluates thousands of applications against the available seat matrix. The final result of this processing will be the Round-2 provisional allotment list.

Candidates who receive an allotment in this phase must prepare for a swift transition to physical reporting. The reporting phase involves the verification of original documents and the payment of admission fees at the assigned medical college. It is essential for candidates to keep their NEET SS scorecards, internship completion certificates, and post-graduate degree certificates ready to ensure a smooth verification process.

Rules Regarding Forfeiture and Upgradation

The rules for Round-2 are stricter than those of the initial round. Candidates who are allotted a seat in Round-2 but choose not to join will face the forfeiture of their security deposit. Furthermore, those who join their Round-2 allotted seat are generally not permitted to resign or participate in further rounds of state or national counselling to prevent seat wastage.

With the academic session already in its early stages for those who joined in Round-1, the MCC is aiming to complete this second round by mid-April. This timeline ensures that super-specialty departments can stabilize their student intake and begin the specialized training modules without further delay.

Conclusion

The NEET SS 2025 counselling process is moving efficiently toward the finalization of Round-2 seat allotments. With the registration window closing in just a few days, the current focus is on accurate choice filling and meeting the fee payment deadlines. The shift from the application phase to the allotment phase marks the penultimate step in the 2025-26 admission cycle. Candidates must stay updated with official MCC notifications to ensure they do not miss the choice locking window. As the results are declared on April 7, the focus will shift to institutional reporting, effectively concluding the major portion of the super-specialty admission journey for this year.
