The super-specialty medical admission cycle in India has reached its second stage. Following the conclusion of Round-1 reporting, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially opened the registration and choice-filling window for Round-2 of the NEET SS 2025 counselling. This round is vital for candidates who are seeking an upgrade from their previous allotment or those who are participating in the process for the first time after missing the initial round.

According to the latest data released by the MCC, a total of 6,591 seats are available for allocation in this round across various Doctorate of Medicine (DM), Master of Chirurgiae (MCh), and Doctorate National Board (DrNB) programs. These vacancies include "clear vacancies" resulting from non-joining or resignations after Round-1, as well as "virtual vacancies" created by candidates opting for upgradation.

Breakdown of the Round-2 Seat Matrix

The seat matrix for Round-2 provides a comprehensive look at the remaining opportunities in premier medical institutions. Of the total available seats, 1,858 are classified as clear vacancies, which are guaranteed to be available for allotment. Additionally, there are 4,600 virtual vacancies. These seats are currently occupied but will become available if the present holders are successfully upgraded to their higher preferences during this round.

Furthermore, the MCC has incorporated 133 newly added seats into the system for Round-2. These additions often stem from recent administrative approvals or late accreditation updates for specific super-specialty departments. Candidates are advised to review the updated PDF matrix on the official portal to ensure their choices align with the current availability in their respective specialty groups, such as Cardiology, Oncology, or Pediatrics.

Registration and Choice-Filling Timeline

The registration facility for Round-2 was activated on March 28, 2026, and will remain accessible until the afternoon of April 3. This window allows candidates to pay the non-refundable registration fee and the refundable security deposit, which together total INR 2,05,000 for most applicants.

The choice-filling process, where candidates list their preferred colleges and courses in order of priority, began on March 29. This is a critical step, as the automated allotment system uses these preferences to match candidates with available seats based on their NEET SS merit rank. The window for locking these choices will open during the final hours of the application period on April 4.

Mandatory Reporting and Document Verification

Once the seat allotment results are declared on April 7, successful candidates must prepare for the physical reporting phase. Reporting is scheduled to take place between April 8 and April 16 at the respective allotted institutes. During this time, candidates must present their original academic and professional documents, including their MBBS/MD/MS degree certificates and NEET SS 2025 scorecard.

The MCC has clarified that any candidate who is allotted a seat in Round-2 and fails to report will forfeit their security deposit. Therefore, candidates should only fill choices for seats they are genuinely willing to join. This round is expected to fill a majority of the super-specialty capacity for the 2025-26 academic session, leaving only a small fraction of seats for any subsequent stray vacancy rounds.

Conclusion

The NEET SS 2025 Round-2 counselling is currently the primary focus for medical professionals aiming for super-specialty seats. With over 6,500 seats on the table and the registration window closing on April 3, the current phase requires strategic choice-filling based on the latest seat matrix. The shift from Round-1 to Round-2 has introduced fresh vacancies and newly added seats, providing a significant opportunity for rank-holders to secure their desired specializations. As the process moves toward the allotment result on April 7, candidates must ensure all technical and financial formalities are completed within the stipulated deadlines to remain eligible for the final stages of admission.
