NEET PG 2026 Answer Key: Release Still Awaited, Response Sheets to Be Published for the First Time

As of September 13, 2026, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has not yet released the NEET PG 2026 provisional answer key. Once published, it will be available on the official NBEMS portal, natboard.edu.in, and — for the first time — will include each candidate's own recorded responses alongside the official key. The NEET PG 2026 result is scheduled for September 30, 2026, according to the exam's official information brochure.

Why This Year's Answer Key Is Different

NBEMS is publishing candidates' individually recorded responses along with the answer key for the first time, in line with a Supreme Court transparency directive concerning medical entrance exams. In earlier years, only the master answer key was released; this change lets each candidate cross-check exactly which option they selected for every question, not just the correct answer.

The NEET PG 2026 exam was conducted on August 30 in a single shift, comprising 180 multiple-choice questions worth 720 marks. A re-examination was held on September 5 for roughly 2,445 candidates whose test was disrupted by a power and technical failure at an exam centre in Jaipur. A three-member panel — including a senior Rajasthan government official, a Union Health Ministry representative, and an engineer from the Central Electricity Authority — investigated the disruption and attributed it to a technical fault, not a paper leak.

Of the 2,73,096 candidates who registered, 2,65,980 appeared at 1,111 centres spread across 338 cities.

What the Answer Key PDF Will Contain

• Question ID numbers — a unique identifier for each of the 180 questions
• Candidate's recorded response — the exact option the candidate selected
• Official correct answer — the option NBEMS treats as correct
• Marks allotted — the marks the candidate earned for that question

How to Calculate Your Score

NEET PG follows a +4/-1 marking scheme: four marks for each correct answer, one mark deducted for each incorrect answer, and no marks added or deducted for unattempted questions.

Formula: Score = (Total correct answers × 4) − (Total incorrect answers × 1)

Candidates can use this formula against their response sheet to estimate their raw score before the official result.

Objection Window: What Happens After the Answer Key

Based on the standard NBEMS process (subject to official confirmation for this cycle), candidates are typically given a short window — around two to three days — to raise objections against specific answers, sometimes against a processing fee. A subject-expert panel reviews the objections and revises the key where warranted before finalising it. The final answer key, not the provisional one, is used to prepare the result.

Tie-Breaking Criteria for NEET PG 2026

Where two or more candidates score identically, merit is decided in this order:

1. Fewer incorrect answers overall
2. Fewer incorrect answers in Section A
3. Fewer incorrect answers in Sections B, C, D and E, in that order
4. Higher aggregate marks in MBBS professional examinations
5. Older candidate ranked higher

Eligibility and Qualifying Percentile

For context, category-wise qualifying cutoff scores (out of 800) over recent years have moved as follows:

(2024 figures were not available in the source data.) Any 2026 cutoff figures circulating before the official result are expert projections only, not confirmed NBEMS data, and should be treated accordingly.

Seats and Colleges Available for 2026-27

NEET PG 2026 qualifiers will be able to compete for seats across 527 colleges offering MD, MS and PG Diploma programmes — 280 government and 247 private — totalling 46,220 seats (27,371 government, 18,849 private). Separately, in a Lok Sabha reply, the Union Health Minister put the total number of PG medical seats nationally at 86,360, with Karnataka accounting for the highest share.

The government has also approved a third phase of a centrally sponsored scheme to add 5,000 postgraduate medical seats by 2028-29. Separately, the National Medical Commission has discontinued the two-year PG diploma route; the 2026-27 cycle is the last admission year for these diploma seats, which are being phased in favour of MD/MS seats.

What Happens After the Result

Once results are out, eligible candidates enter MCC-conducted counselling for 50% All-India Quota seats, state quota seats, private medical college and deemed university seats, Armed Forces Medical Services seats, and post-MBBS DNB, direct six-year DrNB, and NBEMS diploma courses. Counselling registration fees (as per the last notified schedule) are ₹1,000 for general-category AIQ/central university candidates, ₹500 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates, and ₹5,000 for deemed university seats — candidates should confirm the current fee on the MCC portal before paying.

The answer key, response sheet and result will all be published on the official NBEMS portal: natboard.edu.in. Candidates should rely only on this official source (and the MCC counselling portal for later stages) rather than unofficial links or messages.
