The post-graduate medical admission landscape is currently marked by a critical mix of legal scrutiny and active academic procedures. The Supreme Court of India is scheduled to hold its next hearing on a plea seeking transparency in the NEET PG 2025 examination on November 7, 2025. This crucial hearing is taking place concurrently with the ongoing Round 1 counselling process, which is a cause of significant uncertainty and stress for thousands of aspiring doctors.

Supreme Court Plea for Exam Transparency

The core of the legal challenge revolves around allegations of opacity in the NEET PG 2025 examination and result-processing mechanism adopted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Aspirants and petitioners, including the United Doctors' Front (UDF), have moved the top court, questioning the method of answer key disclosure and evaluation protocols.

Specifically, the plea challenges a "corrective notice" issued by NBEMS, which restricted the disclosure of question papers and answer keys to only question IDs and responses according to a master set. Petitioners argue that this mechanism is "opaque, unintelligible, and incapable of meaningful verification." They maintain that without the full question paper, raw scores, and a clear explanation of the normalisation formula, candidates cannot effectively verify the fairness and accuracy of their results. The petitioners' intention is not to stall the counselling process but to ensure fairness and accountability in one of the country's most high-stakes medical entrance exams. The outcome of the November 7 hearing will be vital, potentially leading to a directive for NBEMS to provide greater transparency, which would set a new precedent for future national-level medical entrance examinations.

Round 1 Counselling Nears Conclusion

Despite the pending legal matter, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is proceeding with the scheduled counselling process for the 50% All India Quota (AIQ) seats and 100% of seats in Deemed/Central Universities. The deadline for Round 1 Counselling registration, choice filling, and choice locking is today, November 5, 2025. This is the final day for candidates to register and finalize their preferred choices of specialty and college for the current academic session.

  • Registration/Payment Last Date: November 5, 2025 (up to 12:00 NOON)
  • Choice Filling/Locking Last Date: November 5, 2025 (Choice Locking starts from 4:00 PM)
  • Processing of Seat Allotment: November 6 and 7, 2025
  • Round 1 Result Declaration: November 8, 2025

The declaration of the Round 1 result on November 8 is scheduled just one day after the critical Supreme Court hearing. This tight timeline has amplified the tension among aspirants, as any major ruling from the apex court regarding the examination's transparency could theoretically impact the basis of the merit list used for seat allotment.

Impact on Medical Aspirants

The simultaneous nature of the legal proceedings and the counselling timeline has created significant anxiety and uncertainty among NEET PG aspirants. They are caught in a difficult position: proceeding with the counselling process based on the current merit list while a legal challenge is actively questioning its fairness. Aspiring doctors are urged to stay calm, complete their Round 1 choice filling today as per the established schedule, and closely follow official updates from both the Supreme Court and the MCC.
