The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has successfully concluded the NEET PG 2025 examination. Held in a single shift on August 3, 2025, the exam marks a critical milestone for thousands of medical graduates seeking to pursue postgraduate degrees such as MD, MS, and PG Diploma in various specializations. With the exam now over, the attention of all aspirants has shifted to the next crucial phase: the declaration of results and the subsequent counselling schedule.

The NEET PG 2025 exam, initially scheduled for June 15, was postponed following a Supreme Court directive to hold the test in a single shift to ensure fairness and transparency. After accommodating the logistical requirements of a one-shift exam, the NBEMS successfully conducted the test on the revised date.

What's Next for NEET PG Aspirants?

The post-exam period is filled with anticipation for candidates. Here is a timeline of the expected events:

  • Result Declaration: While the official result date is yet to be confirmed, the NBEMS is expected to release the NEET PG 2025 results by September 3, 2025. This timeline is based on the typical one-month period required for evaluation and finalization. Candidates will be able to download their scorecards from the official website, natboard.edu.in.
  • Counselling Schedule: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), which is responsible for the counselling process, is expected to release a detailed schedule in August, following the result declaration. The counselling is likely to be held in four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and a Stray Vacancy Round.
  • Seat Matrix: The official seat matrix, detailing the number of available seats in various colleges and courses, will be released by the MCC before each round of counselling. The latest data suggests there are over 73,000 postgraduate seats in India, which includes seats for MD, MS, and Diploma courses across government and private institutions.

The Counselling Process Explained

The NEET PG counselling process is centralized and conducted online. Here are the key steps candidates must be prepared for:

  1. Registration: Eligible candidates must first register on the official MCC portal (mcc.nic.in). This involves providing personal details, NEET PG credentials, and paying the required registration and security fees.
  2. Choice Filling and Locking: After registration, candidates can fill in their preferred colleges and courses from the available list. This is a critical step, as seat allotment is based on a candidate's rank, choices, and seat availability. Aspirants are advised to be strategic and thorough while making their choices.
  3. Seat Allotment: The MCC will process the choices and ranks to allot seats. The result will be published on the official website.
  4. Reporting: Candidates who are allotted a seat must report to the respective college within the specified timeframe to complete their document verification and admission formalities.

Documents Required for Counselling

Candidates should start preparing all the necessary documents to avoid any last-minute hurdles. The essential documents for NEET PG counselling and admission include:

  • NEET PG 2025 Admit Card and Scorecard.
  • MBBS Degree Certificate.
  • Internship Completion Certificate.
  • Permanent or Provisional Registration Certificate issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) or a State Medical Council.
  • Valid Photo ID Proof.
  • Category Certificate (if applicable).

With the exam phase behind them, aspirants should now focus on staying updated with official announcements and preparing for the counselling process, which is set to begin soon.
