The postgraduate medical admission landscape is witnessing significant activity as the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has once again extended the deadline for Round 1 of the NEET PG 2025 counselling choice filling and locking process. This extension comes amid demands from aspirants and medical bodies for increased transparency and resolution of procedural issues, putting the spotlight on the entire admission process.

MCC Extends Deadline Amidst Growing Aspirant Concerns

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced an indefinite extension of the choice-filling and locking window for Round 1 of the NEET PG 2025 counselling. The decision, as per the official notification, is primarily driven by the need for a further revision to the National Medical Commission (NMC) seat matrix. This ongoing revision suggests that more seats—including newly added or permitted ones—may become available, which is a positive development for aspirants.

However, the counselling process has been anything but smooth. A significant section of postgraduate medical aspirants, through various bodies, have formally approached the Health Ministry and the MCC. Their primary demand is the reopening of the initial registration portal. Many candidates who faced issues with incomplete registration, technical glitches, or complexities related to the NRI quota during the initial, short window are now struggling to participate. Doctors are moving swiftly to ensure these procedural interruptions are resolved, highlighting that candidates with high ranks risk losing their opportunity due to administrative roadblocks. The extension of the choice-filling deadline provides a temporary respite, allowing the committee to address these core concerns and hopefully, provide a fair chance to all eligible candidates before the Round 1 allotment results are published.

Supreme Court Steps In on NEET PG Transparency

In a major development concerning the integrity of the NEET PG examination itself, the Supreme Court has decided to examine the policy of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) regarding the publication of NEET PG Answer Keys. The Apex Court acknowledged the importance of transparency in the conduct of such high-stakes national-level entrance exams. While the NBEMS traditionally does not disclose the answer keys, the court will now investigate whether withholding this information compromises the exam’s integrity and transparency. This ruling is a significant move that could potentially usher in a new era of openness in the medical entrance examination system, offering greater clarity and assurance to future medical aspirants.

State Counselling Updates: Seat Matrix & Registrations Begin

While the national process faces scrutiny, several states are moving ahead with their respective NEET PG counselling for the state quota seats:

  • Madhya Pradesh: The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has proactively released the comprehensive category and class-wise NEET PG 2025 Seat Matrix for MD/MS admissions. This allows candidates to make informed decisions during the choice-filling process.
  • Kerala & Uttarakhand: The first phase of PG medical admissions for 2025 has officially begun in Kerala, conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE). Similarly, the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU) has started accepting applications for PG medical admissions in Uttarakhand.
  • West Bengal: The West Bengal Medical Counselling Committee (WBMCC) has also commenced the registration process for its state NEET PG Counselling, offering a chance for admission to around 1,671 seats across 26 medical colleges.

Aspirants must keep track of these numerous state and national deadlines. Being well-prepared and verifying documents early is essential to secure a seat.
