As of today, October 16, 2025, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has not officially released the schedule for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 counselling. However, high anticipation remains among medical stream aspirants, with sources and medical associations tentatively pointing to a commencement of the Round 1 registration process around mid-October. Candidates who qualified in the NEET PG 2025 exam, which was held in August, are advised to keep a close watch on the official MCC website, mcc.nic.in, for the imminent release of the official schedule.

What to Expect in the Counselling Process

The NEET PG counselling process is crucial for admission to MD, MS, and PG Diploma courses under the 50% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government medical colleges and 100% seats in Deemed/Central Universities, ESIC, and AFMS institutions. The remaining 50% of seats fall under the State Quota, for which respective state counselling authorities will conduct a separate process.

The entire AIQ counselling process, which is conducted entirely online, will typically comprise four distinct rounds: Round 1, Round 2, a Mop-Up Round, and a final Stray Vacancy Round.

Mandatory Steps for Round 1 Participation

Aspiring doctors must be fully prepared to navigate the online registration process the moment the schedule is announced. The key steps for Round 1 participation include:

  1. Online Registration: Candidates must visit the official MCC website and register using their NEET PG 2025 credentials. This involves creating a user account and filling in personal and academic details.
  2. Fee Payment: A non-refundable registration fee and a refundable security deposit must be paid online. The amount varies based on the candidate's category and the type of institution (Central vs. Deemed University) they are applying for.
  3. Choice Filling & Locking: This is the most crucial step. Candidates must select their preferred courses and colleges in the precise order of priority. Once choices are final, they must be locked before the deadline. Failure to lock choices may lead to exclusion from the allotment process.
  4. Seat Allotment Result: The MCC will publish the result online based on the candidate's NEET PG rank, filled choices, available seats, and applicable reservation criteria.
  5. Reporting to College: Allotted candidates must download their allotment letter and report to the designated college within the stipulated time for physical document verification and admission completion.

Important Considerations and Delays

Despite the high expectation for a mid-October start, the official schedule has yet to be finalized. This delay is partly attributed to ongoing legal matters, including a Supreme Court hearing regarding exam transparency and a petition demanding the release of question papers and answer keys, which is currently scheduled for October 28, 2025.

It is essential for all qualified medical aspirants to have their mandatory documents prepared, including the NEET PG 2025 Admit Card and Scorecard, MBBS Degree, Internship Completion Certificate, and Medical Registration Certificate (Provisional/Permanent). Given the fierce competition for MD/MS/PG Diploma seats, missing a single deadline can jeopardize admission. Candidates should only rely on official updates from the MCC and respective state counselling bodies.
