The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a final notification reminding aspirants that the registration for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026 will officially conclude on March 8, 2026. This single-window entrance exam is the mandatory gateway for admission into MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BSMS, and BUMS courses across all medical institutions in India, including AIIMS and JIPMER. As of today, early registration data suggests that 2026 might witness the highest-ever participation, potentially crossing the 25-lakh mark. Aspirants are urged to complete their fee payments well before the deadline to avoid last-minute server congestion.

Essential Checklist for NEET 2026 Applicants

The NTA has become increasingly strict with document specifications. Before hitting 'Submit', verify the following:

  • Aadhaar Authentication: Ensure your name on the Aadhaar card matches your Class 10 certificate exactly.
  • Photograph Specs: The photo must be recent, with a white background, showing 80% face coverage and ears clearly visible. Both "Postcard Size" and "Passport Size" photos are required.
  • Fingerprint Impressions: Candidates must upload clear left and right-hand fingers and thumb impressions.
  • Category Selection: Double-check your category (OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST). Errors made here can significantly impact your "All India Rank" and state quota benefits.

Why 2026 is a Crucial Year for Medical Aspirants

With the addition of several new Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, the number of available MBBS seats has seen a marginal increase. However, with the rising competition, the "cutoff" for top-tier colleges like MAMC Delhi and KGMU Lucknow is expected to remain highly competitive. This year, NTA has also emphasized a "No Correction" policy for certain fields, making the initial registration phase more critical than ever.

What After March 8?

Once the registration window closes, NTA will briefly open a "Correction Window" for minor edits. Following this, the focus will shift to the release of the "Advance City Intimation Slip" in the third week of April, allowing students to plan their travel to the exam centers.
