The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially released the updated stipend guidelines for 2025 concerning DNB, DrNB, and FNB trainees across India. This comprehensive revision aims to ensure uniformity, financial support, and fair treatment for postgraduate medical students training under the board’s programs.

Applicable to all accredited institutions offering DNB, DrNB, and FNB courses, these new guidelines are expected to significantly improve the quality of medical education, while also standardizing financial compensation for trainees. The circular has been published on the NBE’s official website – https://nbe.edu.in.

The revised guidelines are effective for the 2025 academic session and will impact both existing and newly admitted trainees.

Revised Monthly Stipend Structure for DNB, DrNB & FNB Trainees

The new stipend structure is now aligned with the Central Government norms and aims to ensure fair compensation for all DNB trainees and fellows.

As per the updated norms:

  • First-year trainees must receive a minimum monthly stipend of ₹61,800.
  • Second-year trainees are entitled to ₹63,700.
  • Third-year trainees will now receive ₹65,600.
  • These stipend rates are applicable to all DNB, DrNB, and FNB courses, including both broad and super specialty disciplines.

Institutions must disburse the stipend from the joining date until the last day of the training tenure, without any delay or deductions.

NBEMS has also clarified that non-compliance may lead to withdrawal of accreditation or other penalties against the defaulter institutions.

Implementation Guidelines and Institutional Responsibilities

The new stipend norms are mandatory for all accredited hospitals and teaching institutions running DNB, DrNB, and FNB courses.

Key highlights from the circular:

  • Stipends must be paid regularly and on time—delays will be viewed seriously by NBEMS.
  • Institutions are not permitted to adjust stipends against tuition or training fees.
  • Any discrepancy in payment should be reported to NBEMS by the concerned trainee.
  • NBEMS has introduced a reporting system for stipend-related grievances.

Institutions are also required to submit compliance reports periodically to maintain transparency and uniformity across all centers.

Scope, Compliance, and Grievance Redressal

  • The circular outlines that all candidates pursuing courses under NBEMS, including broad-specialty DNB, super-specialty DrNB, and FNB programs, are entitled to these revised benefits.
  • Trainees are encouraged to check the stipend policy on the official site – https://nbe.edu.in – and stay informed about their rights.
  • NBEMS has reiterated that it is committed to improving postgraduate medical education standards and ensuring welfare of the students.
  • Trainees facing any issues can raise grievances through the official NBEMS portal.
  • All stakeholders are advised to adhere strictly to the circular, and any violation will result in disciplinary measures against the institution.

Conclusion

The announcement of the NBE 2025 stipend guidelines is a welcome move for thousands of DNB, DrNB, and FNB students across India. By reinforcing financial fairness and timely disbursal of stipends, NBEMS has reaffirmed its dedication to postgraduate medical education quality. Institutions are expected to implement these norms without fail and ensure no trainee is underpaid or exploited.
