The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has released a significant notification regarding the DNB Sponsored Seats for the 2025 admission session. This update is crucial for in-service government doctors who are NEET-PG/PDCET qualified and looking to pursue DNB (Diplomate of National Board) training in Broad Specialties or Direct 6-Year Super Specialty Courses.

The Sponsored Seats scheme, initially introduced in the 2020 admission session, aims to utilize the capacity of NBEMS-accredited hospitals by dedicating seats specifically for doctors employed on a regular basis by government organizations. The allotment for these specialized seats will be strictly conducted through centralized, merit-based counseling.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply for DNB Sponsored Seats?

The eligibility for securing a sponsored seat is twofold, covering both the candidate (in-service doctor) and the NBEMS-accredited hospital department.

1. Candidate Eligibility (For In-Service Doctors):

This category is strictly reserved for doctors employed on a regular basis by a sponsoring Government organization. Aspirants must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualification: The candidate must be NEET–PG 2025 qualified for Post-MBBS DNB seats, or PDCET-2025 qualified for Post-Diploma DNB seats.
  • Employment Status: Must be employed on a regular basis with the sponsoring Government organization.
  • Organizational Support: The candidate must secure a Study Leave and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employing organization. All other requirements and terms of the sponsoring organization must be fulfilled.
  • Financial Stipend: The entire stipend for the DNB training period must be borne by the sponsoring Government organization.
  • Mandatory Counselling: Participation in the centralized merit-based counselling is mandatory, as seats will be allocated strictly based on inter se merit.

2. Hospital/Department Eligibility (Criteria for Seat Inclusion):

For an NBEMS-accredited department to offer a sponsored seat, it must fulfill several conditions, ensuring the quality of training remains high:

  • Minimum Capacity: The accredited department must have at least three non-sponsored seats in the concerned specialty.
  • Inclusion of All Seats: The hospital must have officially opted for the inclusion of all its non-sponsored seats in the centralized counselling for the 2025 admission session.
  • Accreditation History: The department must have completed a minimum of one year of accreditation with NBEMS.
  • Surplus Faculty: There must be an additional (surplus) faculty approved by the NBEMS within the department to effectively supervise and train the sponsored candidate without compromising the training of other residents.

Seat Position Update

NBEMS has also released the tentative list of sponsored DNB seats for the 2025 admission session, which satisfies the requirements for non-sponsored seat count, accreditation history, and surplus faculty.

Aspirants must note that this is a tentative list. Not every seat on this list will be available for final counseling. The final availability is contingent upon the participating hospitals providing consent to include all their non-sponsored seats in the 2025 counseling process.

All eligible candidates are strongly advised to regularly visit the counseling web portal of NBEMS for the final list of sponsored seats and detailed counselling schedule. This is a golden opportunity for in-service doctors to advance their specialty training while retaining their employment benefits.
