In a major relief for medical aspirants in Madhya Pradesh, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has officially announced the addition of 420 new MBBS seats for the second round of the NEET UG 2025 counselling. This substantial increase in seats is set to provide a much-needed boost to students and will likely have a positive impact on the cut-off ranks for this round.

The newly added seats come from two primary sources. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its nod to two new government medical colleges, one in Sheopur and another in Singrauli, each with an intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats. Out of these, 85 seats from each college will be available for counselling under the State Quota.

In addition to the government seats, a significant number of private college seats have also been restored. Following an order from the Delhi High Court, Index Medical College, Indore, has been allowed to participate in the counselling process, adding 250 MBBS seats to the total pool.

What This Means for Aspirants

This development is a game-changer for many aspirants who may have narrowly missed out on a seat in the first round or are looking to upgrade their current college. The DME has specified that candidates will have to fill in fresh choices to participate in the second round, as the preferences from the previous round will not be considered. The deadline for candidates to exercise their willingness for upgradation was August 30, 2025.

The inclusion of these new colleges and seats is a testament to the ongoing efforts to expand medical education and infrastructure in the state, offering more opportunities for aspiring doctors.
