MKCG Medical College Introduces Two New BSc Allied Health Programs
MKCG Medical College introduces BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology and BSc in Medical Radiation Technology with 20 seats each, pending university affiliation.

In a move set to expand educational opportunities for medical aspirants in Odisha, Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College, Berhampur, is set to introduce two new undergraduate allied health science programs from the current 2025-26 academic session. The new three-year courses—BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology and BSc in Medical Radiation Technology—will offer students a new career path in the burgeoning healthcare sector.
The college has received a "No Objection Certificate" from the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) for these self-financing courses, a significant step toward their formal launch. Each of the new programs is expected to have an initial intake of 20 students, providing a total of 40 new seats.
Admission Process and Career Scope:
While the specifics of the admission process are still to be determined by the State Council for Allied Medical Science (SCAMS), it is expected to be based on merit from the qualifying 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects. This will open up opportunities for a wide range of students who may not have secured admission into traditional MBBS or BDS programs.
These new courses are particularly significant as they are the first of their kind to be offered at a government medical college in the state, adding to the credibility and affordability of the programs. Graduates of these courses will find employment in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, and research centers. A BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology prepares students to work as medical technologists who analyze patient samples, while a BSc in Medical Radiation Technology trains professionals to operate imaging equipment like X-rays, CT scanners, and MRI machines.
The introduction of these new degree courses marks a significant upgrade from the college's existing two-year diploma programs, offering students a more comprehensive and in-depth educational experience. The final step for the college is to secure formal affiliation from the Odisha University of Health Sciences to begin the admissions process.
