The MIT Institute of Design (MITID), Pune, has officially opened its admission portal for the 2026-27 academic session. Aspiring designers seeking admission into the prestigious Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Master of Design (M.Des) programs must now register for the MIT Design Entrance Test (MIT DET) 2026. This national-level entrance exam is the first step toward securing a seat at one of India's leading design institutions, known for its industry-aligned curriculum and global collaborations.

The application window, which commenced on October 17, 2025, is currently active for all specializations across its campuses, including MITID Pune, Avantika University (Ujjain), and MIT University (Shillong).

 

Key Timeline and Admission Essentials

The MITID admission process is structured into two main phases: the written Design Aptitude Test (DAT/DET) and the subsequent Studio Test and Personal Interview.

Online Application Deadline: February 28, 2026 (Strict Deadline).

Admit Card Release: 2nd or 3rd week of March 2026.

MIT DET Exam Date: April 5, 2026 (Sunday).

Result Declaration (Shortlist): April 23, 2026 (after 5:00 PM).

Phase 2 (Studio Test & Interview): Scheduled between May 6 and May 18, 2026.

The Selection Process:

Phase 1 (Design Entrance Test): A 3-hour written examination evaluating design inclination, logical reasoning, and creative observation.

Phase 2 (Studio Test & PI): Shortlisted candidates are invited to the Pune campus for hands-on material handling tests, a portfolio review, and a personal interview.

Final Merit List: Based on the cumulative performance in the written test, studio test, and interview.

Eligibility Criteria

MITID follows a comprehensive selection method that looks beyond academic scores to assess a candidate's innate creative potential.

For B.Des Programs:

Completion of Class 10+2 from any stream (State Boards/AISSCE/IB/ISC/NIOS).

Candidates appearing for their final exams in 2026 are also eligible to apply.

For M.Des Programs:

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Design, or a related field (for specific technical branches).

Graduates from any discipline with a strong creative portfolio (for communication and fashion branches).

The application process is entirely online. Candidates must ensure they meet the eligibility criteria before paying the non-refundable fee.
