The MH CET Law 3-year LLB option entry for CAP Round 1 has started today, August 3. Learn about key dates, the freeze/float process, and expert tips for submitting your college preferences.

The State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell, Maharashtra, has officially initiated the college option entry process for the 3-year LLB course as part of its Centralised Admission Process (CAP). This crucial step, which began today, August 3, is for candidates who have secured a place on the final merit list for Round 1. With the window for submitting preferences open for a limited period, aspirants must act swiftly and with careful consideration.

The final merit list, which was published yesterday, August 2, determined the eligibility and ranking of candidates for the first round of seat allocation. The subsequent college option entry phase allows candidates to select and prioritize their desired institutions, a process that is vital as it directly influences the final seat allotment.

Crucial Dates and Schedule:

Aspirants need to be aware of the following schedule for a successful admission process:

  • Final Merit List for Round 1: Published on August 2, 2025, after 5:00 PM.
  • College Option Form Filling for Round 1 & 2: August 3, 2025, to August 5, 2025.
  • Round 1 Seat Allotment: August 8, 2025, after 5:00 PM.
  • Reporting to Allotted College: August 11, 2025, to August 13, 2025.

The College Preference Process: Freeze, Float, or Surrender

The option form is a single submission that will be considered for both CAP Round 1 and Round 2. Candidates must list their college preferences in a specific order, from most preferred to least.

After the Round 1 seat allotment is announced on August 8, candidates will have three main choices:

  • Freeze: If you are satisfied with the college allotted to you, especially if it was your first choice, you can "freeze" the seat. This confirms your admission, and you must report to the college between August 11 and 13 to complete the formalities and pay the fees. After freezing, you cannot participate in subsequent rounds.
  • Float: If you have been allotted a college but wish to be considered for a better option in a later round, you can choose to "float." This allows you to retain the current seat while being considered for higher-preference colleges in Round 2.
  • Surrender: If you are not happy with the allotted college and do not want to hold the seat, you can choose to surrender it. This makes you eligible to participate in the next round of counselling, but you will lose the option of the seat you were offered.

Expert Advice for Aspirants:

Given the limited time frame, here are some key considerations for aspirants:

  • Prioritize Wisely: Your preference list is your most important tool. Research colleges thoroughly, considering factors like ranking, faculty, infrastructure, and location. Place your most-desired college at the top.
  • Lock Choices Promptly: Do not wait until the last minute to submit your preferences to avoid any last-minute technical glitches.
  • Check Official Website: All communications and updates will be posted on the official website of the State CET Cell (cetcell.mahacet.org). Aspirants should check it regularly to ensure they don't miss a single notification.

This option entry process is a pivotal moment in the admission journey, and a well-informed and strategic approach is essential for securing a seat at your preferred law college.
