Understanding the Seat Matrix

The Round 2 seat matrix reveals a total of 21,723 seats available for allotment, categorized into three types:

Newly Added Seats: A total of 1,134 new seats have been added to the counselling process. These are fresh seats that were not available in Round 1 and have been approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) since then.
Clear Vacancy Seats: There are 13,501 clear vacancy seats. These are seats that remained unoccupied after the conclusion of Round 1, either because no candidates were allotted to them or the allotted candidates did not join.
Virtual Vacancy Seats: A total of 7,088 seats are categorized as virtual vacancies. These seats become available if a candidate from Round 1 chooses to upgrade their seat in Round 2. If a candidate's preferred college is a better choice than the one they were allotted in Round 1, their previous seat becomes a 'virtual vacancy' and is then filled by another candidate in the current round.
