As the calendar turns to December 29, 2025, the postgraduate medical admission cycle in Maharashtra and West Bengal has reached a critical bottleneck. For thousands of aspirants, today marks the final opportunity to either secure their residency seats or strategically withdraw to participate in subsequent rounds. With the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) also extending its resignation window to match state timelines, the pressure on candidates to finalize their academic future has never been higher.

The post-counselling phase for Round 2 is currently active, and the window for physical reporting is rapidly closing. Candidates who have been allotted seats must adhere to the following critical updates:

  • Maharashtra CAP Round 2: The State CET Cell has mandated that candidates who wish to join their allotted seats must complete physical reporting by December 30, 2025. However, today is the effective deadline for many to decide on Status Retention.
  • West Bengal Round 2: The WBMCC reporting phase is in its final hours. Aspirants must ensure they visit their respective institutes with all original documents to avoid seat forfeiture.
  • MCC Resignation Window: In a significant move, the MCC has extended the resignation deadline for Round 1 and Round 2 seats to 04:00 PM on December 29, 2025. This allows candidates to vacate AIQ seats if they have secured a preferred choice in the state rounds.

Essential Documentation for Physical Reporting

Aspirants moving toward the reporting phase must carry a comprehensive dossier. Failure to produce even one original document can lead to the immediate cancellation of the allotment.

  • Academic Proofs: NEET PG 2025 Admit Card, Scorecard, and all MBBS year-wise mark sheets.
  • Professional Credentials: Internship Completion Certificate (cutoff July 31, 2025) and Permanent/Provisional Medical Registration.
  • State-Specific Requirements: Domicile certificates for state quota seats and Category/EWS certificates where applicable.
  • Admission Essentials: The Round 2 Provisional Allotment Letter and the required Demand Draft for tuition fees.

Looking Ahead: Round 3 and Stray Vacancy

As Round 2 concludes, the focus shifts to the remaining vacancies. In West Bengal, registration for Round 3 is slated to begin on December 31, while Maharashtra will open its third-round window in early January 2026. Aspirants who did not secure a seat in this round should prepare for a revised seat matrix, which will include seats vacated during the current resignation window.

Candidates are strongly advised to monitor the official state portals hourly for any last-minute extensions or vacancy notifications to ensure they do not miss the chance for a seat upgrade.
