The Maharashtra Bachelor of Design Common Entrance Test (MAH B.Des CET) is a state-level examination held annually for aspiring designers. It serves as the primary gateway for admission to various undergraduate design courses offered by institutions across Maharashtra.

Key Dates and Deadlines

For the MAH B.Des CET 2025, candidates should note the following important dates:

  • Application Period (Extended): January 4, 2025 – February 25, 2025
  • Exam Date: March 29, 2025
  • Result Declaration: June 9, 2025
  • Round 3 Seat Allotment Out: August 20, 2025 
  • CAP Round 4 - Online Submission and Option Form Confirmation: August 21-23, 2025
  • CAP Round 4 - Display of Provisional Allotment: August 24, 2025
  • Seat Acceptance and Reporting to Colleges for Round 4: August 25-28, 2025

Exam Pattern and Syllabus Breakdown

The MAH B.Des CET 2025 is structured into two parts, each with a duration of 1 hour 30 minutes:

  • Part A (Paper I): This section consists of 70 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), totaling 100 marks. It includes 40 questions worth one mark each and 30 questions worth two marks each. This part is answered on an OMR sheet.
  • Part B (Paper II): This section focuses on sketching skills and problem-solving abilities. It comprises 2 questions, one for 40 marks and another for 60 marks, making a total of 100 marks.

There is no negative marking in the MAH B.Des CET, and all questions are compulsory.

The syllabus for the exam is comprehensive and covers a range of topics to assess a candidate's aptitude for design:

  • Part A: Concentrates on Visualization and Illustration Ability, primarily through pencil sketching & shading.
  • Part B: Focuses on Design Thinking & Problem Solving, requiring skills in sketching, shading, & rendering.
  • Part C: This section encompasses a broader range of subjects, including:
    • General Knowledge: Basics of Computers, current affairs, and general awareness.
    • Art & Design Fundamentals: Elements and principles of design, perception of form/shape, aesthetic sensitivity, color theory and schemes, basic art history, Indian and world cultures, and important arts and crafts, including tribal art forms.
    • Science-Technology Related Knowledge: Basics of physics, geometry, mathematics, practical and everyday mechanical and scientific concepts, and knowledge of materials.
    • Analytical and Logical Reasoning: Ability to recognize patterns and analyze data, sequences, or relationships between shapes and imageries.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the MAH B.Des CET 2025, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an Indian national.
  • Have passed or be appearing for the 10+2 examination or its equivalent.
  • Secure a minimum aggregate of 45% marks in the qualifying examination (40% for candidates belonging to reserved categories, EWS, and PWD from Maharashtra State).
  • There is no age limit for applicants.

Application Process

The application process for MAH B.Des CET 2025 is entirely online:

  1. Visit the official website: mahacet.cetcell.org.
  2. Click on "New Registration" to create a user ID and password by filling in the necessary details.
  3. Log in using your newly created credentials.
  4. Complete the MAH B.Des application form, ensuring all personal and academic details are accurately provided.
  5. Upload scanned copies of your photograph and other required documents as per the specifications.
  6. Pay the non-refundable application fee online. The fee is ₹1900/- for General category candidates from Maharashtra State and all other Indian candidates. For SC, ST, VJ/DT- NT(A), NT(B), NT(C), NT(D), OBC, SBC, EWS, Person with Disability (PWD) belonging to Maharashtra State only, Orphans, and Transgender (Other) candidates, the fee is ₹1400/-.
  7. Submit the application form and take a printout for future reference.
