Madhya Pradesh's MBBS seat count has dropped by 300 for NEET UG 2025 counselling. The choice-filling process for Round 1 begins today, with the deadline on August 4.

A major setback for medical aspirants in Madhya Pradesh, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has announced a significant reduction in the number of MBBS seats available for counselling this year. A total of 300 seats have been removed from the seat matrix, and the online choice-filling process for Round 1 of NEET UG counselling has officially begun today, August 2, 2025.

According to the revised seat matrix released by the DME, the total number of MBBS seats in the state has decreased from 5,075 last year to 4,775 this year. This drop is a direct result of the National Medical Commission (NMC) withdrawing its recognition for new admissions at two private medical colleges: Index Medical College in Indore (250 seats) and L.N. Medical College in Bhopal (50 seats).

Impact and Key Dates for Aspirants:

This unexpected reduction, particularly in the private sector, is expected to intensify the competition for medical seats and potentially lead to an increase in cut-off scores. While the number of seats in government medical colleges remains largely unchanged, students targeting private institutions will face a tighter race for a limited number of spots.

Candidates who have registered for the state's counselling must act now, as today is a crucial day in the admission process. The key dates for the first round of counselling are:

  • Choice Filling and Locking: The window for filling and locking college preferences is open from July 31 and will close on August 4, 2025.
  • Seat Allotment Result: The result for Round 1 is scheduled to be published on August 6, 2025.
  • Reporting to Allotted Colleges: Candidates allotted a seat must report to their respective colleges for document verification and admission between August 7 and August 11, 2025.

Aspirants are strongly advised to check the revised seat matrix carefully on the official portal, dme.mponline.gov.in, before locking their choices.
