Law aspirants are preparing essential documents and fee payments for the 2026 counselling cycle. Ensure all certificates are ready by the January deadlines.

With the first seat allotment lists now being published across major national law entrance portals, law aspirants nationwide have entered a high-stakes phase of administrative preparation. The transition from result declaration to actual seat securing requires meticulous attention to the counselling documentation and financial formalities mandated by various National Law Universities (NLUs) and private legal institutions. As the January deadlines approach, the focus has shifted from competitive scores to the precision of the admission fee payment and the validity of uploaded certificates.

The Consortium of NLUs and other testing bodies have opened their respective digital gateways for the submission of academic and category-related records. For many, this week marks the final opportunity to verify their eligibility before the first round of the enrollment process concludes.

Essential Checklist for Counselling Documentation

  • All law aspirants are required to have their original Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets ready, as these serve as the primary proof of date of birth and academic eligibility.
  • The counselling documentation must include the entrance exam admit card and the official scorecard, which are used to cross-reference the candidate’s merit rank during the verification stage.
  • For those claiming seats under specific quotas, valid SC, ST, OBC, or EWS certificates issued by competent government authorities are non-negotiable.
  • Candidates are also advised to keep multiple passport-size photographs and a scanned copy of their signature prepared for various college-specific forms that follow the initial allotment.

Fee Submission and Payment Gateways

  • A critical step in the current window is the payment of the seat confirmation or admission fee, which typically ranges from ₹20,000 to ₹50,000 depending on the university.
  • This admission fee must be processed through the official portal's integrated payment system to ensure the 'Freeze' or 'Float' status of a candidate is recorded.
  • Failure to complete the transaction within the stipulated timeframe will lead to an automatic exit from the current enrollment process, regardless of the candidate’s rank.
  • Most institutions are accepting payments via credit cards, net banking, and UPI; however, students are cautioned to check for transaction limits on their accounts to avoid last-minute failures.

Conclusion

As the legal education sector moves toward finalizing the first batch of 2026, the responsibility lies with the law aspirants to ensure their paperwork is beyond reproach. The complexity of counselling documentation often catches candidates off guard, but a proactive approach this week can prevent the loss of a hard-earned seat. By aligning their digital uploads with the physical originals, students can navigate the enrollment process with confidence. With the fee payment windows for major law schools closing between January 15 and January 20, the current period remains the most active window for administrative compliance in the 2026 academic cycle.
