February 2026 marks a critical phase for law admissions in India as major national-level exams reach key milestones. While the CLAT UG Round 3 counselling is currently postponed following a High Court order for result revision, the AILET 3rd merit list has been officially released by NLU Delhi. Simultaneously, registration deadlines for MH CET Law 3-year and 5-year programs are fast approaching on February 13 and 14, respectively. Prospective law students must track these updates on official portals like consortiumofnlus.ac.in and cetcell.mahacet.org to secure their seats.

The landscape of legal education in India is witnessing significant administrative shifts this month as major national-level exams navigate their respective admission cycles. From judicial interventions affecting seat allotments to the closing of application windows for state-level entrances, February has become the most decisive month for the 2026 academic session. Candidates are advised to monitor the official law admission portals frequently to stay informed of the evolving schedules.

CLAT 2026: UG Postponement and PG Allotments

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has encountered a temporary hurdle regarding the Undergraduate (UG) admissions. Following a directive from the Allahabad High Court to revise the merit list due to answer key discrepancies, the CLAT UG 3rd allotment list originally scheduled for February 5 has been postponed until further notice. This delay affects thousands of aspirants waiting to freeze or float their seats in the third round.

In contrast, the CLAT PG 2026 process remains on track. The third merit list for postgraduate courses was released as scheduled on February 5. Candidates named in this list must complete their confirmation fee payment and seat acceptance by February 12, 2026. Failure to act within this window will lead to the forfeiture of the allotted seat within the national-level exams framework.

AILET 2026: Third Merit List Released

National Law University (NLU) Delhi has officially declared the AILET 2026 third merit list for both BA LLB (Hons.) and LLM programs on February 4. Shortlisted candidates are required to deposit a provisional admission confirmation fee of ₹50,000 by 11:00 a.m. on February 10, 2026. This round is particularly competitive, with only a few seats remaining across various categories.

The university has emphasized that the admission confirmation fee must be paid through the candidate's digital locker on the official website. If a candidate fails to accept the offer or complete the payment by the deadline, the seat will automatically be offered to the next individual in the merit order during the fourth round, which is tentatively expected in May.

MH CET Law 2026: Extended Registration Deadlines

For students targeting law colleges in Maharashtra, the State CET Cell has provided a final extension for the MH CET Law 2026 application process. The revised deadlines are as follows:

  • 3-Year LLB: February 13, 2026
  • 5-Year LLB: February 14, 2026

Interested applicants must register at cetcell.mahacet.org and submit the required documents, including domicile certificates and academic transcripts. With the 3-year LLB exam scheduled for April 1-2 and the 5-year exam set for May 8, these national-level exams represent the last major opportunity for state-specific legal admissions this year.

Conclusion

The admission confirmation fee deadlines and the sudden postponement of the UG merit lists highlight the volatile nature of the current admission cycle. As the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) prepares to release a revised schedule, candidates must ensure they have all digital documents ready for the MH CET Law 2026 registration. Navigating these national-level exams requires not just academic preparation but also a keen eye on the administrative deadlines that define the path to a legal career in 2026.
