The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has provided a crucial last-minute update for undergraduate medical aspirants participating in the NEET UG Counselling 2025 Stray Vacancy Round. A single MBBS seat from a prestigious Tamil Nadu medical college has been added to the All India Quota (AIQ) seat matrix, offering a final chance for a deserving candidate to secure admission.
Details of the Reinstated MBBS Seat
The newly added seat is an All India Quota (AIQ) seat designated for the OBC-PwD (Other Backward Classes - Persons with Disabilities) category.
- Institute: Government Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
- Course: MBBS
- Category: OBC-PwD
- Number of Seats Added: 01 (One)
This reinstatement follows a recent order from the Hon'ble High Court of Judicature at Madras. The seat was previously withheld but has now been directed to be included in the AIQ pool for the Stray Vacancy Round. The MCC's prompt action ensures that all eligible candidates within the OBC-PwD category have a fair and equal opportunity to compete for this available seat in the concluding stage of the NEET UG 2025 counselling.
Critical Deadlines for the Stray Vacancy Round
The Stray Vacancy Round is the final opportunity for aspirants to gain admission through the central counselling process. Candidates must pay close attention to the following revised deadlines, as no further extensions are expected:
| S.NO. | SCHEDULE FOR ADMISSION | ALL INDIA QUOTA/DEEMED/CENTRAL UNIVERSITIES |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Stray Vacancy Choice Filling & Locking | 4th to 12th November 2025 |
| 2 | Last Date of Joining | 20th November 2025 |
| Commencement of Academic Session for UG Courses | 22nd September, 2025 |
Aspirants who are eligible for the Stray Vacancy Round, especially those falling under the OBC-PwD category, must ensure they log in to the MCC portal immediately. They should update their choice filling to include the newly available MBBS seat at Government Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai. Missing the November 12, 2025, deadline for choice filling and locking will result in disqualification from this final round.
Significance for Aspirants
The Stray Vacancy Round is typically conducted to fill any remaining seats after the Mop-Up Round. Given that only a total of 115 seats (comprising 59 MBBS, 36 BDS, and 20 BSc Nursing seats) were initially vacant across AIQ, Deemed, and Central Universities for this round, the addition of even one MBBS seat is a substantial gain for the respective category.
Aspirants are strongly encouraged to check the official notice on the MCC website for complete details and to verify their eligibility. This is the last chance for admission into the 2025 academic session. For regular updates on medical entrance exams and counselling procedures, follow Only Education News.
