Jamia Millia Islamia Reverses Online Teaching Extension; Offline Classes and Exams Resume November 2

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) will resume offline classes and examinations for all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from November 2, 2026, according to an office order issued on October 29. The decision reverses the university's earlier directive that extended online teaching until November 24 and moved odd-semester examinations online.
Students should follow their respective department or faculty timetables and examination instructions when preparing to return to campus. The November 2 date applies to all mid-semester, end-semester, and other scheduled examinations, which will now be conducted in person.
What the October 29 Order Says
The order, issued with the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, directs that all UG and PG classes be held in offline mode according to timetables prescribed by departments and faculties. All scheduled examinations—including mid-semester and end-semester assessments—will be conducted offline.
Regular attendance remains mandatory under the university's academic rules. Students must attend classes and appear for examinations according to schedules issued by their departments and faculties.
Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors of Centres, and other concerned officials have been instructed to make necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of offline classes and examinations, including classroom facilities, seating, and invigilation.
What Changed from the Previous Order
The October 29 order supersedes an earlier directive dated October 28, which had extended online classes until November 24 and announced that odd-semester end-term examinations would be held online. Under that earlier schedule, practical and viva examinations were set for November 25–30, followed by online theory examinations from December 1–24.
The reversal means students who had prepared for online assessments must now make arrangements to return to campus and sit for examinations in person. The November 2 date marks the resumption of offline academic activities; individual examination dates remain as per departmental schedules.
What Students Should Do Now
Check your department timetable immediately. The university has not issued a single central examination schedule; dates and timings are communicated by individual departments and faculties.
Confirm examination mode with your department. If you have downloaded online examination guidelines or admit materials, verify whether those have been superseded.
Plan your return to campus. Outstation students should check hostel reopening protocols and travel arrangements. [admission.jmi.ac.in] — confirm hostel details with the hostel office.
Attend classes regularly. The order explicitly states that regular attendance is mandatory and that university academic rules apply.
What Happens Next
The university has directed deans, department heads, and centre directors to ensure classrooms, seating, and invigilation arrangements are in place before November 2. The order states that the university will not be responsible for any inconvenience arising from non-compliance with the directive.
Students should monitor official JMI communication channels—the university website (jmi.ac.in) and departmental noticeboards—for any further updates or clarifications.
