Following the conclusion of the Open Round registration on January 30, the seat allocation results are expected on February 20. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has concluded the online registration for the Open Round of seat allocation as of January 30, 2026. This final phase of the January 2026 session is designed to fill approximately 498 vacant postgraduate seats across various Institutes of National Importance (INIs). Medical graduates who qualified for the entrance exam but were not allotted a seat in previous rounds are currently awaiting the final allotment list, which will determine their residency pathways.

  • Vacancy Status: A total of 438 seats are available in MD/MS/DM(6yrs)/MCh(6yrs) courses, with an additional 60 seats for Foreign National and Sponsored candidates.
  • Eligibility Recap: Candidates must have secured the 50th percentile (UR/EWS) or 45th percentile (OBC/SC/ST/PwBD) to participate in this final registration window.
  • Institutional Scope: The process covers premier institutions including AIIMS campuses, JIPMER Puducherry, PGIMER Chandigarh, NIMHANS Bengaluru, and SCTIMST Trivandrum.
  • Security Deposit: Participants were required to submit a mandatory security deposit of ₹3 lakh to be eligible for the Open Round allotment.

Final Allotment Schedule and Reporting Phase

As of February 1, AIIMS has shifted its focus to the processing of choices and the finalisation of the admission list. According to the official counselling schedule, the results for the Open Round will be announced on February 20, 2026. This will be followed by a strict reporting window where candidates must complete their physical joining formalities to ensure their admission is confirmed before the session's ultimate cutoff.

Important EventDate (January 2026 Session)
Open Round Choice FillingJanuary 23 – 30, 2026
Announcement of AllotmentFebruary 20, 2026
Online Acceptance of SeatFebruary 21 – 28, 2026
Physical Reporting & JoiningFebruary 21 – 28, 2026
Course CommencementJanuary 1, 2026 (Backdated)

Candidates are reminded that the Open Round is a "spot" allocation process; seats allotted in this round must be accepted, as there are no subsequent upgrade opportunities. The finalisation of these lists marks the official close of the January recruitment cycle. Those who fail to secure a seat or report during this window will need to look toward the July 2026 INI CET session, for which the entrance examination is tentatively scheduled for May 17, 2026.

Conclusion

The current finalisation phase is a high-stakes period for over 32,000 qualified doctors competing for the remaining spots in specialized medical fields. Once the February 20 results are live, the focus will transition to document verification and the submission of original certificates at the allotted institutes. Successful admission candidates must ensure they meet the internship completion deadline of January 31, 2026, to remain eligible. For real-time updates on the seat allocation PDF and specific institute joining instructions, aspirants should maintain a constant vigil on the AIIMS Exam portal.
