In a major development impacting postgraduate medical admissions, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, the conducting body for the INI-CET (Institutes of National Importance Combined Entrance Test) January 2026 session, has officially confirmed the implementation of the 200-Point Roster for seat allocation.

This roster system is a standardized framework mandated by the Government of India for the uniform application of reservation policies across all participating INIs, including AIIMS, JIPMER, PGIMER, NIMHANS, and SCTIMST. The move ensures transparency and compliance in distributing seats under the Central Reservation Act.

Understanding the 200-Point Roster

The 200-Point Roster is a mechanism used for the block-wise distribution of reserved and unreserved seats in accordance with the Central Government's reservation percentages. The roster ensures that the mandated proportion of seats for each reserved category is maintained without relying on complex fractional calculations for smaller batches.

The Roster ensures the following reservation percentages are accurately distributed across 200 consecutive points (or seats):

CategoryReservation PercentageNumber of Seats Reserved (Out of 200)
Economically Weaker Section (EWS)10%20
Other Backward Classes (OBC)27%54
Scheduled Castes (SC)15%30
Scheduled Tribes (ST)7.5%15
Unreserved (UR)40.5%81
Total100%200

Impact on INI-CET Aspirants

The adoption of the 200-Point Roster is primarily an administrative change but has significant implications for candidates:

  1. Uniformity: It ensures that the reservation policy is applied identically across all INI institutes, leading to a single, harmonized merit list and seat allocation process based on INI-CET rank.
  2. Increased Transparency: The specific point (seat) at which a reservation block begins and ends is clearly defined, adding transparency to the counselling and seat allocation process.
  3. EWS/OBC Benefit: The mandatory inclusion of the 10% EWS and 27% OBC reservations within this framework ensures that candidates belonging to these categories benefit fully as per the central mandate.

Crucial Note for Candidates: The final seat allotment list, which is due to be published on December 18, 2025, for the INI-CET January 2026 Round 1, will now officially adhere to this 200-Point Roster system for the distribution of MD/MS/M.Ch seats.

Aspirants must ensure their category certificate (OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST) is valid, issued in the central government format, and dated appropriately. For continuous updates on the INI-CET counselling and the final seat allocation, follow Only Education News.
