The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has announced a crucial extension for the option entry process for the Karnataka NEET UG 2025 Round 3 Counselling for MBBS and BDS admissions. This extension, which was primarily facilitated after the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) revised its dates for the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling, aims to provide greater opportunities for medical aspirants.

Revised Option Entry Deadlines

The general deadline for candidates to enter or modify their college and course preferences for the Round 3 counselling has been extended until October 15, 2025. This allows all eligible candidates, including those who were not allotted a seat in the earlier rounds, those who cancelled their seats, or those seeking an upgrade, additional time to carefully review the updated seat matrix and submit their choices on the official KEA website.

Opportunity for Newly Added Seats

A significant development is the addition of new MBBS seats in the state's medical colleges. In a recent update, the Department of Medical Education added 50 new seats in four medical colleges, bringing the total newly added seats to 200. These new seats are spread across institutions like Subbaiah Institute of Medical Sciences (Shimoga), BGS Medical College and Hospital (Bangalore North), Shridevi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Tumakuru), and A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Center (Mangaluru).

For candidates who have already secured and joined a seat in Round 1 or Round 2, a specific window is open to apply for these newly added 50 seats. This special option entry for previously admitted candidates will run from 11:00 AM on October 15, 2025, to 8:00 AM on October 16, 2025.

Crucial Warning for Current Seat Holders

A vital instruction for candidates already holding a seat (Choice 1 or 2 in earlier rounds) who participate in the option entry for the new seats is the forfeiture clause. KEA has clearly stated that if a candidate is allotted one of the newly added seats through this process, their previously secured seat will be automatically forfeited and they will have no claim over it. This rule is in place to ensure a smooth transition and to make the newly vacated seats available in subsequent counselling phases, if any. Aspirants and their parents are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and consult thoroughly before entering options during this special window, given the finality of the forfeiture.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is conducting this state-level counselling, and this is considered a critical, and possibly the final, opportunity for UG medical and dental admissions in the state for the current academic year. Candidates are continuously advised to check the official KEA portal for the final seat matrix, fee structure, and any last-minute schedule changes. For regular updates, follow Only Education News.
