About the US-India TRUST Fellowship
The fellowship is part of a landmark cross-border academic initiative jointly launched by IIT Madras, the U.S. Consulate General Chennai, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Pratiksha Trust, and Mazumdar Shaw Philanthropy. It reflects a growing commitment to deepening research ties between the United States and India in areas of global strategic importance.
The program will run from August 2026 to July 2027, with selected fellows placed at IIT Madras and other partner institutions across India. An informative webinar for prospective applicants is scheduled for June 17, 2026 at 8 PM, ahead of the application deadline of June 30, 2026.
Research Focus Areas
Fellows will be assigned to projects spanning high-priority domains including Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Semiconductors, Biotechnology, Defense Technologies, Energy, and Space Research — all sectors where US-India collaboration holds immense transformative potential.
Eligibility Criteria
The fellowship is open to PhD holders, post-doctoral researchers, and early-career faculty currently affiliated with leading U.S. institutions. Preference may be given to U.S. citizens who have not previously worked or conducted research in India, making this an ideal opportunity for those looking to expand their academic footprint into one of the world's most dynamic research ecosystems.

Fellowship Benefits
Selected fellows will receive a comprehensive support package that includes a monthly stipend of approximately USD 1,650, a research contingency grant of up to USD 2,000, round-trip international airfare, accommodation support during the fellowship period, health insurance coverage, visa assistance, and full on-ground logistical support.
