Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has announced the creation of a US sub-campus. The new campus is set to open by 2027 and will be located at SUNY Old Westbury on Long Island in New York. IIT Bombay and SUNY Old Westbury signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to set up the campus. SUNY stands for the State University of New York. The agreement was announced on June 26, 2026, during a virtual meeting. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was present at the event. IIT Bombay's Director, Shireesh Kedare, also participated. SUNY Old Westbury's president, Timothy E.S. Sams, joined the meeting from the United States. India's Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi were also there. This will be the third overseas campus of an IIT in India.

Programmes Offered at the New Campus
The sub-campus will start with certificate courses in three fields: artificial intelligence, sustainability, and clean technology. Full degree programs will be introduced in the future. IIT Bombay plans to offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs in science and engineering. The campus also aims to conduct joint research and exchange faculty with partner institutions.
How Will Students Apply to the IIT Bombay US Sub-Campus?
Admissions to the US sub-campus will not be based on JEE Advanced. The campus will accept applications from students all over the world, including both US and Indian applicants. The tuition fee and admission guidelines have not been released yet. IIT Bombay will share these details in the coming months.
