IISER Kolkata Fee Structure 2026 Released for BS-MS, PhD, and MS Programs
The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata has officially released the fee structure for the Autumn 2026 semester, covering BS-MS, PhD, and MS programs.

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata has officially released the fee structure for the Autumn 2026 semester, covering BS-MS, PhD, and MS programs. The detailed structure is now available on the institute’s official website, providing clarity for both new and continuing students planning admission this year.
As per the latest update, the BS-MS dual degree program will have a tuition fee of INR 48,901 per semester for students belonging to the General, EWS, and OBC-NCL categories. Notably, candidates from SC, ST, and PwD categories are eligible for a 100% tuition fee waiver, making the program more accessible and inclusive.
Key Fee Components
The overall fee structure is divided into multiple components to ensure transparency. Apart from tuition fees, students are required to pay hostel charges of INR 9,050 per semester and mess establishment charges of INR 7,000 per semester. Additionally, there are one-time deposits such as INR 1,000 each for hostel and mess, along with a semester registration fee of INR 200.
The institute has clarified that hostel and mess charges are applicable primarily for students opting for residential facilities. These charges are standard across most batches, with slight variations possible depending on accommodation preferences.
Program Duration & Structure
The BS-MS program at IISER Kolkata spans five years, while the PhD program typically runs for 5–6 years, and the MS program is designed for a duration of 2 years. The institute has also released provisional fee structures for different batches and program categories, ensuring students can plan their finances accordingly.
No Installment Facility
One important highlight is that IISER Kolkata does not offer any installment options, part-payment facilities, or internal loan provisions. Students are required to pay the full fees during admission and semester registration. As a result, candidates are strongly encouraged to explore external scholarships, fellowships, or education loans to manage their expenses effectively.
Refund Policy Explained
The institute has also outlined a clear refund policy. If a student withdraws before registration, a processing fee of INR 3,000 will be deducted. For withdrawals within one month of the commencement of classes, the deduction increases to INR 8,000. Beyond this period, especially after mid-semester exams, partial or no refund may be applicable.
What Students Should Do Next
With the fee structure now released, candidates planning to join IISER Kolkata should begin preparing for the next steps, including admission confirmation, fee payment, and document verification. Students are also advised to regularly check the official website for any updates regarding admission schedules or fee revisions.
