The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore has started a new four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) program in aerospace engineering, beginning from the 2026-27 academic year. The announcement was made on the official BTech admissions website at btech-ug.iisc.ac.in. Admissions for this program will only happen through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2026 counseling process. Aerospace engineering is one of three new BTech programs introduced by IISc this year. The other two new programs are in mechanics and computing and materials science and engineering. The existing BTech in Mathematics and Computing, which started in the 2022-23 academic session, will continue alongside these new programs.

Program Highlights

The BTech in Aerospace Engineering is structured over eight semesters and requires completing 128 credits. The course includes topics like aerodynamics, propulsion, structures and materials, flight and space mechanics, and guidance and control systems. Students will have access to the Aerospace Engineering X Lab for practical learning. In the final year, they will work on a Design-Build-Fly project. There are flexible electives available across different departments at IISc. From the third year onwards, students will be involved in structured research projects. High-performing students can also access graduate-level courses.
