Candidates can still apply for GATE 2027. IIT Madras has extended the regular registration deadline to 5 October 2026, and registration with a late fee closes on 12 October 2026. The late fee is ₹500 per paper, added to the regular application fee. Applications are online only, at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

Fee

Candidates pay the regular fee plus ₹500 for each test paper. Category-wise base fees are on the official portal [VERIFY].

Who Can Apply

Third-year, final-year, or graduated undergraduate students from engineering, technology, science, commerce, arts, and humanities streams can apply [VERIFY against the information brochure]. GATE scores are used for M.Tech and research admissions at IITs, IISc, NITs, and IIITs, and for some PSU recruitment. Admission depends on each institute's own criteria.

How to Apply (Expected Process) [VERIFY on the portal]

  1. Open gate2027.iitm.ac.in and click the registration link.
  2. Continue with DigiLocker and verify your details.
  3. Grant consent and DigiLocker Drive access.
  4. On GOAPS, fill in personal and qualification details.
  5. Choose exam cities, upload documents, and pay the fee.
  6. Download the confirmation PDF and keep it.

DigiLocker is expected to be mandatory for Indian nationals [VERIFY]. Make sure your name and date of birth match your official records.

Common Registration Errors and Fixes [VERIFY]

  • "Email already registered": restart consent from the verified DigiLocker account in an incognito window.
  • Address details missing: update your mobile number and email in DigiLocker, then restart.
  • Drive access not granted: revoke GATE-2027 consent under My Consents, log in again, and click Allow.
  • College name error: remove special characters such as brackets and "&".
  • GOAPS login issue: clear cache, update the browser, avoid peak hours, and contact the helpdesk instead of resubmitting.

After You Apply

Track your status by logging in to GOAPS. Defects are expected to be notified by email, SMS, or WhatsApp [VERIFY]. Use the 14 to 21 October window for corrections. Exam cities can reportedly be edited then but cannot be changed after allotment [VERIFY].

  • Apply early to avoid server load.
  • Check name, date of birth, and email in DigiLocker first.
  • Keep photo, signature, and any category or PwD certificates ready.

    GATE 2027: No Confirmation Email or SMS After Submitting?

    Log in to GOAPS and check your application status. Confirmation messages can be delayed, so the portal is the reliable check.

    What to do

    • Check your spam or junk folder.
    • Make sure your registered mobile number and email are correct.
    • Expect delays during heavy traffic near the deadline.
    • If you can download the PDF copy of your submitted form, your submission went through.

    If money was deducted but you got no acknowledgement: Check your bank transaction and log in to GOAPS again later. If payment isn't received, pay again without waiting for the refund. The debited amount returns to your account within 15 working days.

    Photograph rules

    • Recent photo, not older than 3 months.
    • Front view, with forehead, eyes, nose and chin clearly visible.

    Signature rules

    • Signed by the candidate only. No digital signatures, capital letters or initials.
    • A signature that doesn't match at the exam centre can lead to disqualification.

    GATE 2027 Registration: Unverified DigiLocker Accounts Allowed

    IIT Madras has allowed candidates to apply for GATE 2027 with an unverified DigiLocker account. Their forms and documents will be checked during scrutiny after submission.

    How to check your application status

    • Log in to GOAPS with your Enrolment ID and password.
    • View your status on the dashboard.

    "Application Under Scrutiny" means your form is being verified. There is no need to worry.

    If there is an error: The GATE office will contact you by email, SMS or WhatsApp. Fix the defect within the given time.

    Step 1: Choose your option on GOAPS
    PwD candidates must select the correct option on the application form. This is needed even if you plan to bring your own scribe.

    Step 2: Know your category

    GATE 2027 PwD fee concession: what candidates need to know

    Who is eligible: Candidates with a benchmark disability, meaning at least 40% impairment, whatever the type of disability.

    What to submit: A recently obtained, valid PwD certificate. Candidates opting for the concession should upload it as per the portal's instructions. For DigiLocker Drive uploads, candidates report using a "GATE2027" folder with the files named PWD_CERT.pdf or UDID_CERT.pdf, each under 600 KB. Confirm the exact rules in the Information Brochure.

    Concession amount: ₹1,000 in the regular window and ₹1,500 in the late-fee window, per paper.

    Verification: The admitting institute is responsible for verifying the certificate at the time of admission. The GATE 2027 Committee is not responsible for incorrect PwD declarations.

    UDID: Candidates can check the Unique Disability ID (UDID) scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for details.

    Scribe or compensatory time: For candidates who need a scribe or extra time because of difficulty in writing, the certificate must come from a multi-member medical authority:

    • Chief Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon or Chief District Medical Officer (Chairperson)
    • Orthopaedic or PMR specialist (Member)
    • Another expert nominated by the Chairperson, based on the candidate's condition (Member)
