How to Apply on GOAPS
- Go to the official site, gate2027.iitm.ac.in, and open the GOAPS registration link.
- Sign in and link a DigiLocker account. IIT Madras has made DigiLocker mandatory for Indian nationals this cycle; a verified account is preferred, but candidates with an unverified account can still register — their documents get checked later at the exam centre.
- Confirm the auto-fetched details (name, date of birth, mobile number, email and photo) to generate an enrolment ID and password.
- Complete facial-capture verification and upload the required documents.
- Pay the application fee and submit the form.
GATE 2027 Application Fees
| Category | Regular period | Extended (late-fee) period |
|---|---|---|
| Female / SC / ST / PwD candidates (per paper) | ₹1,000 | ₹1,500 |
| All other candidates, including foreign nationals (per paper) | ₹2,000 | ₹2,500 |
The fee is non-refundable once paid, regardless of category.
DigiLocker Requirement — What to Know
DigiLocker linking is now a mandatory step in GATE registration for Indian nationals. A few points candidates should keep in mind:
- Do not delete the DigiLocker account used for the GATE 2027 application even after payment — all future communication is tied to that account.
- Applicants who registered with an unverified account should set their consent validity to three years, and be ready for document verification at the exam centre.
- Candidates reporting portal errors (duplicate email, missing address fields, folder/file-naming issues on DigiLocker Drive) should check the troubleshooting notice on the official portal before reapplying, since exact fixes can change during the registration window. Eligibility at a Glance
Per the official GATE 2027 eligibility notice, candidates are eligible if they are currently in the third year or higher of an undergraduate degree, or have already completed a government-approved degree programme in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities. There is no upper age limit and no cap on the number of attempts.
What Happens Next
Once registration closes, IIT Madras will open a correction window from October 14 to October 21, 2026, during which candidates can edit specific fields such as category, exam-city preference or paper choice, subject to GOAPS rules. City allotment is expected to be notified on January 4, 2027, followed by admit card release (date not yet announced) ahead of the exam on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027.
