With the first set of GATE 2026 papers scheduled to commence this weekend, the organizing IIT has issued a comprehensive set of "Do’s and Don’ts" to ensure a smooth conduct of the Computer-Based Test (CBT). Given the high security and the use of biometric verification, candidates are being urged to familiarize themselves with the center protocols today. Any minor oversight in documentation or the possession of a prohibited item could lead to immediate disqualification. Mandatory Checklist: What to Carry

Candidates must arrive at the examination center at least 90 minutes before the scheduled start time to complete the biometric registration and physical frisking.

Item	Specification
Admit Card	Must be a clear, color printout on A4 paper.
Original Photo ID	Must match the ID uploaded during the application (Aadhaar, Passport, PAN, etc.).
Stationery	Only a transparent pen is allowed for rough work.
Water Bottle	Must be completely transparent.

Prohibited Items: Zero Tolerance

The GATE authorities maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding electronic gadgets. The presence of any of the following items within the exam hall will be treated as "Unfair Means":

Electronic Items: Mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators (a virtual calculator is provided on the screen), and Bluetooth devices.
Stationery: Books, notebooks, loose sheets, or geometry boxes.
Personal Belongings: Wallets, handbags, and large jewelry pieces.

Last-Minute Tips for GATE Aspirants

As you spend your final hours today before the exam, keep these strategies in mind:

Virtual Calculator Practice: Ensure you are comfortable with the interface of the on-screen calculator. Do not rely on physical calculation methods.
Mock Navigation: Familiarize yourself with the "Mark for Review" and "Save & Next" buttons to manage your time effectively during the 3-hour window.
Accuracy Over Attempts: Remember that GATE has negative marking for MCQs. Focus on accuracy to protect your percentile.
Scribble Pad Discipline: You will be provided with one scribble pad for rough work. Use the space wisely, as a second pad is usually not provided until the first one is exhausted and returned.

The Path Ahead

GATE 2026 scores are the gateway to M.Tech admissions at IITs and NITs, as well as lucrative careers in PSUs like ONGC, GAIL, and NTPC. Candidates should also keep an eye on the COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) registration which begins shortly after the results.
