The registration process for the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) 2026 has entered its final week, with the application window set to close on March 31, 2026. Aspiring engineers seeking admission to the B.Tech programs at VIT’s campuses in Vellore, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh (Amaravati), and Bhopal must complete their online submissions through the official portal, viteee.vit.ac.in. While some reports have suggested a potential extension to April 10, candidates are advised to adhere to the primary March 31 deadline to ensure eligibility for the slot booking phase.

VITEEE is a mandatory gateway for one of India's most competitive private engineering entrance cycles. For the 2026 session, the examination is scheduled to be held from April 28 to May 3, 2026. The test will be conducted in a proctored, computer-based format across 130 cities in India and several international locations. Candidates who have successfully registered will be granted access to the Online Test Booking System (OTBS) in April to select their preferred exam date and shift.

VITEEE 2026 Eligibility and Application Fee

The eligibility criteria for VITEEE 2026 require candidates to have been born on or after July 1, 2004. Academically, applicants must have secured a minimum aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (or Biology) in their Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology (PCM/PCB) subjects in the qualifying Class 12 examination. For candidates belonging to SC/ST categories or hailing from Jammu and Kashmir and the North-Eastern states, the minimum aggregate requirement is relaxed to 50%.

Application Fee (Indian)₹1,350 (Non-refundable)
Application Fee (NRI)USD 90

Mandatory SubjectsPhysics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology
Age LimitBorn on or after July 1, 2004

Updated Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

For the 2026 session, VIT has maintained its comprehensive exam structure, which evaluates candidates across five distinct sections. The test duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes, featuring a total of 125 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Notably, the 2026 cycle continues with the revised marking scheme: +1 mark for every correct answer and no negative marking for incorrect responses.

  • Mathematics/Biology: 40 Questions
  • Physics: 35 Questions
  • Chemistry: 35 Questions
  • Aptitude: 10 Questions
  • English: 5 Questions

As the exam dates approach, the university will release a mock test link on its official website. This tool is designed to help students familiarize themselves with the navigation and time-management requirements of the digital interface. Unlike JEE Main, which focuses heavily on depth, VITEEE is known for testing the breadth of the NCERT and state board syllabi, requiring students to maintain a high speed of answering.

Important Post-Registration Milestones

Once the registration window closes, the university will provide a brief correction window for candidates to rectify any errors in their personal or academic details. Following this, the slot booking process will commence. It is important to note that the VITEEE admit card is not issued immediately; it is generated only after the candidate successfully books their exam slot through the OTBS.

  1. Application Deadline: March 31, 2026.
  2. Slot Booking: Expected mid-April 2026.
  3. Admit Card Download: 48 hours after slot booking.
  4. Entrance Exam: April 28 – May 3, 2026.
  5. Result Declaration: Second week of May 2026 (Tentative).

Conclusion

The closing of the VITEEE 2026 registration portal on March 31 marks the transition from the administrative phase to the competitive phase of the admission cycle. With over two lakh aspirants expected to compete for seats across the four VIT campuses, the final days of March are crucial for ensuring all documentation and fee payments are verified. As the focus shifts to the April 28 exam start date, students should prioritize balancing their B.Tech entrance preparation with their ongoing board examinations or final school assessments. Securing a high rank in VITEEE 2026 remains the sole path for entry into the university's diverse engineering specializations.
