The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) Assam has officially released the schedule for the offline counselling process concerning the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) seat allotment for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs). This crucial notification is a major step for candidates who are permanent residents of Assam and have successfully cleared the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE). The seat allotment will determine the posting of these aspiring doctors in various government medical colleges across the state for their mandatory year-long internship. Aspirants must strictly adhere to the specified dates and reporting times for physical document verification to secure their future in medical practice.

The journey for a Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) seeking permanent registration and a license to practice in India culminates in the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI). For aspirants who are permanent residents of Assam, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has recently released a highly-anticipated official notification detailing the schedule for the CRMI seat allotment counselling. This offline process is mandatory for FMGs who have completed their MBBS/equivalent degree abroad and successfully passed the National Board of Examinations (NBE)-conducted FMGE screening test.

The release of this schedule, timed for the end of November 2025, provides a clear pathway for these doctors to finally secure their internship positions in Assam’s esteemed government medical colleges. This is not merely an administrative exercise; it is a critical step that bridges the gap between foreign education and Indian clinical practice, ensuring all practicing doctors meet the National Medical Commission (NMC) standards.

Key Dates and Official Counselling Schedule

The DME Assam has mandated a strict offline counselling procedure, which is a departure from the online counselling processes often seen for NEET PG admissions. FMGs must appear in person at the designated venue on the specific date corresponding to their FMGE marks. This merit-based approach ensures transparency and fairness in the allocation of limited CRMI seats.

  • Offline Counselling Venue: Office of the Director of Medical Education, Assam, Sixmile, Khanapara, Guwahati – 22.
  • Reporting Time: Candidates must report punctually at 10:30 AM on the date assigned to them.
  • Schedule based on FMGE Marks (Screening Test):
    • December 5, 2025: Candidates who secured 160 marks and above in the FMGE Screening Test.
    • December 6, 2025: Candidates who secured between 150 and 159 marks in the FMGE Screening Test.

Aspirants’ Note: The merit list is structured solely on the FMGE score, underscoring the importance of performance in this national-level screening test. Missing the assigned date or time will lead to exclusion from the counselling process.

 Mandatory Documents and Eligibility Criteria

The offline nature of the counselling necessitates a meticulous preparation of all required original documents for physical verification. Any discrepancy or failure to produce the originals will lead to immediate cancellation of candidature. This step is designed to verify the residency and academic credentials of the FMGs as per the State and NMC guidelines.

  • Essential Documents to be Presented in Original:
    • FMGE Pass Certificate issued by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).
    • MBBS (Part-II)/Equivalent Degree Certificate from the Foreign University.
    • Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) of Assam, strictly for proving domicile status.
    • Aadhar Card and Valid Passport for identity and proof of foreign study.
    • Date of Birth proof (typically HSLC or equivalent examination Admit Card/Certificate).
    • All mark sheets/testimonials from Class 10 onwards.
    • Any other document as specified in the original official notification (DME/Intern/2025/632259/13, dated 03/11/2025).

Eligibility Focus: The counselling is strictly for FMGs who are permanent residents of Assam and have successfully cleared the FMGE. It is essential for aspirants to also be aware of the National Medical Commission (Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship) Regulations, 2021, which mandate that the CRMI must be completed within two years of passing the FMGE.

Implications for Medical Practice and Stipend

The successful allotment through this DME Assam counselling is a critical milestone, as the CRMI is an essential part of the Indian medical education curriculum, providing practical, supervised training across various specialties.

  • CRMI as a Prerequisite: A 12-month CRMI is mandatory for FMGs to align their clinical exposure with the Indian Medical Graduate (IMG) standards before they can apply for permanent registration with the Assam Medical Council (or any other State Medical Council).
  • Stipend Entitlement: As per NMC regulations, FMGs undergoing CRMI are generally entitled to a stipend on par with Indian Medical Graduates (IMGs) at the respective state-affiliated medical colleges. Candidates are advised to confirm the exact stipend details with the DME/allotted institution.
  • Postings and Clinical Exposure: The CRMI involves rotational postings in key clinical departments such as Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Community Medicine, and other specialties for a well-rounded clinical experience.

Future Outlook: Completing the CRMI successfully opens the door not only to practice medicine in India but also qualifies these doctors to pursue postgraduate medical education (NEET PG) in the future.

Conclusion

The release of the DME Assam CRMI counselling schedule is a significant and timely development for hundreds of Foreign Medical Graduates who have been waiting to commence their mandatory internship. By adhering to the strict offline schedule and ensuring the readiness of all required documentation, FMGs can successfully navigate this final stage of their transition into the Indian healthcare system. This process is a testament to the state's commitment to integrating globally-trained doctors while upholding the rigorous standards set by the NMC. Aspiring doctors must treat the December dates as their highest priority to secure their clinical future in Assam.
