CLAT UG 2026 Fourth Allotment Postponed; Revised Schedule Awaited After Allahabad HC Verdict
The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has officially postponed the fourth round of undergraduate seat allotment for CLAT 2026.

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has officially postponed the fourth round of undergraduate seat allotment for CLAT 2026. The decision comes amid ongoing legal proceedings before the Allahabad High Court, which are directly impacting the counselling process.
According to the notification released on the official website of the Consortium of National Law Universities, the fourth allotment round, which was expected to begin soon, has been deferred until further notice. The delay is linked to a legal dispute surrounding the CLAT 2026 answer key and its implications on candidate rankings and admissions.
The matter is currently under consideration by a Division Bench of the Allahabad High Court. The Consortium had filed a Special Appeal against an earlier judgment passed by a Single Judge. After hearing the arguments, the Division Bench has reserved its judgment, which is now expected to be pronounced on or after May 8, 2026.
This upcoming verdict is crucial, as it will determine the next steps in the CLAT UG 2026 counselling process. The Consortium has clarified that the fourth round of allotment will commence immediately after the court delivers its judgment. A revised counselling schedule will also be released on the official website following the announcement.
The postponement has created uncertainty among candidates who were awaiting the fourth round. This includes students who were not allotted seats in the first three rounds, as well as those who opted for the “Float” option, hoping for better preferences in subsequent rounds. These candidates will now have to wait until the revised timeline is announced.
Meanwhile, it is important to note that the postgraduate (PG) counselling process for CLAT 2026 remains unaffected and is continuing as per the original schedule.
Education experts advise candidates to remain patient and regularly check the official website for updates. Since the outcome of the court’s decision could potentially affect merit lists and seat allocation, aspirants are encouraged to stay prepared with all necessary documents for the next phase of counselling.
The Consortium has also provided official contact details for candidate queries, including an email helpline and support number, ensuring transparency and communication during this period of delay.
As the legal proceedings near conclusion, all eyes are now on the Allahabad High Court’s verdict, which will bring clarity and direction to the CLAT UG 2026 admission process.
