The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has officially opened its application portal for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026. While many aspirants were expecting the portal to go live today, the process formally began on August 1, 2025. This marks a crucial early start to the admission cycle for all 24 participating National Law Universities and numerous other affiliated private law schools across the country.

Aspirants for both the undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs now have a substantial window to complete their registration. The portal, accessible at consortiumofnlus.ac.in, will remain active for nearly three months.

Key Dates for CLAT 2026:

The official calendar for the CLAT 2026 admission process has been released, providing a clear roadmap for all candidates:

  • Online Registration and Application Starts: August 1, 2025
  • Last Date to Apply: October 31, 2025
  • Admit Card Release: November 2025
  • CLAT 2026 Exam Date: December 7, 2025
  • Result Declaration: Mid-December 2025

The confirmed exam date of December 7 is particularly important, as it currently clashes with the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) 2026, which has been scheduled for the same day. This forces aspirants to make a difficult choice between the two national-level exams.

Application Process and Fees:

The registration process is entirely online. Aspirants must visit the official website, register using a valid mobile number and email address, and then fill out a detailed application form. Key details to be submitted include personal information, educational qualifications, and test center preferences.

The application fee is non-refundable and must be paid online. The fees are as follows:

  • ₹4,000: For candidates from the General, OBC, PwD, NRI, PIO, and OCI categories.
  • ₹3,500: For candidates from the SC and ST categories.

Candidates are strongly advised to fill out the application form with utmost care. It is crucial to enter names and other details exactly as they appear on official documents. The Consortium has specified that certain fields, such as the program and category, cannot be edited after the application is submitted and the fee is paid.

With the portal now live, aspirants should not delay the process. Gathering all required documents, including mark sheets and category certificates, and applying well before the October 31 deadline is highly recommended to avoid any last-minute technical glitches.
