The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has officially initiated the centralized online counselling process for CLAT 2026. Following the result declaration on December 16, the Consortium opened the registration portal for eligible candidates to secure their spots in India’s premier law institutions. This online window is the primary gateway for admissions into undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs for the 2026-27 academic session.

CLAT 2026 Counselling Schedule and Registration Fees

The registration window is brief, requiring aspirants to act swiftly. Candidates who have received invitations via SMS or email must log in to the official portal to participate. A non-refundable registration fee is mandatory to enter the allotment pool.

  • Registration Deadline: The window remains open until December 27, 2025 (10:00 PM).
  • General Category Fee: Candidates must pay a registration fee of ₹30,000.
  • Reserved Category Fee: SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD candidates are required to pay ₹20,000.

Essential Steps for Online Choice Filling

Participating in the online counselling process requires a strategic approach to NLU preferences. The system allocates seats based on merit-cum-preference, meaning your list order is critical.

  • Preference Minimums: UG aspirants must provide at least 15 NLU preferences, while PG candidates must provide at least 5.
  • NLU Preferences: Candidates can update their preference list multiple times until the December 27 deadline.
  • Freeze and Float: Upon allotment, candidates can choose to 'Freeze' (lock the seat) or 'Float' (look for a better NLU in the next round).
  • Exit Option: Aspirants can choose to withdraw from the process at any stage if they no longer wish to seek admission.

Documentation and Verification Requirements

Once a seat is provisionally allotted, candidates must undergo a rigorous document verification process. Ensuring all digital copies are clear and valid is vital to prevent disqualification.

  • Academic Records: Class 10 and 12 mark sheets (for UG) and LLB degree marks (for PG).
  • Identity Proof: A valid government-issued ID such as an Aadhaar Card or Passport.
  • Category Certificates: Valid SC/ST/OBC/EWS or PwD certificates if applying under a reserved quota.
  • Transfer/Migration: Character and Migration certificates from the last attended institution.

The entire procedure will span five rounds to ensure all vacant seats across the 24 participating NLUs are filled efficiently. Aspirants should proactively check their dashboard for invitation status and allotment letters. For a seamless experience, candidates must monitor the official Consortium portal regularly for real-time notifications regarding seat acceptance and fee payment links.
