The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025, the gateway to admission into 24 premier National Law Universities (NLUs), is officially opening its online registration portal tomorrow, August 1, 2025. This crucial step marks the beginning of the admission cycle for both the 5-year Integrated LLB and 1-year LLM programs for the academic year 2025-26.

The CLAT examination, conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities, is highly competitive and is the most sought-after entrance test for legal education in India. Eligibility Criteria – Are You Ready?

  • For UG (5-Year Integrated LLB) Programs:
    • Candidates must have passed or be appearing in their 10+2 or equivalent examination.
    • Minimum aggregate marks required: 45% for General/OBC/PwD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories; 40% for SC/ST categories.
    • There is no upper age limit for CLAT.
  • For PG (1-Year LLM) Programs:
    • Candidates must possess an LLB degree or an equivalent examination.
    • Minimum aggregate marks required: 50% for General/OBC/PwD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories; 45% for SC/ST categories.

Application Process: A Step-by-Step Guide:

The entire application process for CLAT 2025 is online, accessible through the official CLAT Consortium website. Aspirants should prepare the following documents in scanned format before starting their registration tomorrow to ensure a smooth and error-free application:

  1. Scanned Passport-sized Photograph: A recent photograph with a plain background.
  2. Scanned Signature: A clear signature on a white background.
  3. Category Certificate (if applicable): For SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD/EWS candidates, issued by a competent authority in the prescribed format.
  4. Relevant Academic Documents: Marksheets and certificates of qualifying examinations.

Application Fee:

  • INR 4,000 for General/OBC/PwD/NRI/PIO/OCI candidates.
  • INR 3,500 for SC/ST candidates. The fee is non-refundable and must be paid online through Net Banking, Credit Card, or Debit Card.

Understanding the CLAT Exam:

CLAT 2025 will be a pen-paper based test, focusing on evaluating candidates' aptitude and reasoning skills rather than rote learning.

  • For UG (5-Year LLB): The exam will have approximately 120 multiple-choice questions from five sections: English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. The duration is 2 hours.
  • For PG (1-Year LLM): The exam includes both objective and subjective questions, covering various law subjects.
