CULET 2025 Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for CULET 2025 are specific and must be met to appear for the exam. The most fundamental requirement is a candidate’s academic background. You must have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or an equivalent examination from a board recognized by the University of Calcutta.

Academic performance is also a key factor. For students in the General category, you are required to have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in your best four subjects in the qualifying examination. For students belonging to the SC/ST categories, this requirement is slightly lower, at a minimum of 40% aggregate marks.

A significant point to note is the absence of an age limit, making this exam accessible to a wide range of students, from recent high school graduates to those who may have taken a gap year.

CULET 2025 Exam Pattern

The CULET 2025 follows a standardized and predictable pattern, which is a major advantage for students preparing for it. The exam is conducted in an offline mode, meaning you will fill out an OMR sheet. The paper consists of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), with a maximum score of 100 marks. You will have a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the exam. A major relief for many students is the fact that there is no negative marking, encouraging you to attempt every question without fear of losing marks for an incorrect answer. The test covers four distinct subjects, which are detailed in the syllabus section below.

CULET 2025 Syllabus

The CULET syllabus is designed to test a candidate's overall aptitude for the legal field. The exam is divided into four sections, each focusing on a specific skill set.

  • General English: This section evaluates your proficiency in the language. Expect questions on reading comprehension, testing your ability to understand and analyze passages. You should also be well-versed in vocabulary, including synonyms and antonyms. Other key topics are sentence correction, idioms and phrases, and grammar rules like subject-verb agreement and reported speech.
  • General Awareness/Current Affairs: This section assesses your knowledge of the world around you. To excel here, you must stay updated on national and international news. Be prepared for questions on topics such as new government schemes, recent awards, and significant events. A daily habit of reading a newspaper is highly recommended for this section.
  • General Mathematics: Don't be intimidated by the name; this section is focused on basic arithmetic and fundamental mathematical concepts. Key areas include percentages, ratio and proportion, and introductory geometry. The questions are designed to test your logical application of basic math rather than complex, advanced topics.
  • Reasoning (Verbal & Non-verbal): This section is all about logical and analytical thinking. It includes topics like coding and decoding, where you decipher patterns, and number series, where you identify numerical relationships. Other important areas include analogies, Venn diagrams, and general problem-solving.
