Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has opened online registration for the Postgraduate (PG) Spot Round 2026 admissions on its official portal, admission.bhu.ac.in. The registration window opened on July 10, 2026, and will remain open till July 14, 2026, till 11:59 PM. First-time registrants will need to pay a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 500 to submit their application.

The Spot Round is essentially the university's way of filling seats that are still lying vacant after the regular counselling rounds are over. It's open to candidates who missed registering earlier, as well as those who got waitlisted, couldn't pay the seat fee on time, or chose to withdraw from earlier rounds. However, candidates who already hold a confirmed seat or have opted for the "FREEZE" option in the regular rounds cannot take part in this round.

As per the official notification, seat allotment in the Spot Round will strictly follow merit based on CUET (PG) 2026 scores. Programmes that require a Group Discussion, Personal Interview, or any practical or performance-based test are not part of the Spot Round — these will continue through their regular admission process instead.

Who Can Apply for the BHU PG Spot Round 2026?

Three groups of candidates are eligible to apply in this round. First, new applicants who haven't registered earlier for BHU PG counselling can create a fresh profile and apply. Second, candidates who were waitlisted in earlier rounds can also apply. And third, those who withdrew or missed the seat-fee payment deadline earlier can either alter their existing choices or add fresh program preferences.

That said, candidates who currently hold a confirmed seat in any BHU PG program are not eligible to apply in this round, and neither are those who opted for the "FREEZE" option during regular counselling. Before registering, applicants should check the program-wise seat availability through the official vacancy list to know which programs actually have open seats.

How to Apply for the BHU PG Spot Round 2026

The entire process is online, and candidates are advised to complete these steps well ahead of the deadline to avoid last-minute portal issues:

  1. Visit the official portal at admission.bhu.ac.in.
  2. Log in using existing CUET (PG) 2026 credentials, or register as a new user.
  3. Check the vacant seat list for your desired program.
  4. Fill in fresh program preferences, or update your existing choices.
  5. Pay the non-refundable Rs 500 fee through net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI.
  6. Submit the form and download the confirmation page for future reference.

Documents Required at Reporting

Once allotted a seat, candidates need to carry a set of 15 documents to their respective department on the reporting date. Missing even one required category or reservation certificate could lead to immediate cancellation of the candidature. The documents include:

  • Provisional admission letter and printed registration form
  • CUET (PG) 2026 scorecard, admit card, and application form
  • Mark sheets of UG, Class 12, and Class 10
  • Category certificate (EWS issued after April 1, 2026; OBC after January 1, 2026)
  • Character certificate and transfer certificate from the last institution
  • Anti-ragging undertaking and local residence form
  • Six recent passport-size photographs

Why This Matters

This Spot Round is effectively the last opportunity for candidates to secure a PG seat at BHU for the 2026-27 academic session. Programmes that require GD, PI, or practicals remain outside this round and follow their own separate admission timeline. Candidates who miss the July 14 deadline will not get another chance to re-enter the counselling cycle.

Action Plan for Candidates

Candidates should check the vacant seat list on admission.bhu.ac.in for their program, confirm they don't fall under an excluded category such as "FREEZED," and keep scanned copies of their CUET (PG) scorecard and category certificate ready. It's important to arrange the Rs 500 registration fee through a valid online payment mode and submit the form well before 11:59 PM on July 14, 2026, saving the confirmation slip for future reference.

What to Watch Out For Next

The first Spot Round seat allotment result is scheduled for July 16, 2026, followed by a second allotment on July 20. Call letters will be issued on July 22, with department reporting set for July 28, 2026.
