The Directorate of Medical Education, Assam (DME Assam), has started Round 1 choice filling for NEET UG 2026 counselling. Candidates who completed the registration process can now submit their preferred colleges and courses through the official website, dme.assam.gov.in. The choice-filling window is open from August 16 to August 18, 2026. Candidates can submit or modify their choices each day until 10 PM. The final choice-locking facility will be available on August 18 from 5 PM to 11:55 PM. The counselling is conducted for admission to first-year MBBS and BDS courses under the 85% state quota in government medical and dental colleges in Assam. The remaining 15% All India Quota seats are handled by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

Who Can Fill Choices?
Only candidates who completed their Round 1 registration by August 15, 2026, can participate in the choice-filling process.
Candidates must:
- Have qualified NEET UG 2026 conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
- Meet the applicable Assam eligibility and domicile requirements.
- Fulfil the category requirements prescribed by DME Assam.
- Have completed the required Round 1 registration within the specified deadline.
- Candidates belonging to General, PwBD, Reserved and Special categories must submit their choices online.
Candidates belonging to the OBC/MOBC creamy layer must apply under the General category. Eligible candidates under special categories such as freedom fighter kin, defence, sports and orphan categories can also participate as per the applicable rules.
How to Fill Choices on the DME Assam Portal
Candidates should follow these steps to submit their preferences:
- Visit dme.assam.gov.in.
- Log in using the NEET UG 2026 roll number and registration password.
- Open the Choice Filling section on the counselling dashboard.
- Add preferred college and course combinations.
- Arrange the choices according to your priority.
- Review the complete preference list carefully.
- Save the choices after making changes.
- Return to the portal during the locking window.
- Lock the final choices on August 18 between 5 PM and 11:55 PM.
- Download and keep a copy of the locked choice list.
Important Choice-Locking Rules
Candidates should keep the following points in mind:
- Candidates must select at least one preference before locking.
- A form locked without any choice will be treated as non-participation.
- Choices that are not manually locked by 11:55 PM on August 18 will be automatically locked by the system.

What Happens After Choice Locking?
After the choice-filling window closes, DME Assam will conduct the seat allotment process from August 19 to August 21, 2026. The Round 1 seat allotment result will be published on August 22, 2026. Candidates who receive seats must report to their allotted colleges according to the admission instructions issued by DME Assam. There will be no separate offline counselling process. Eligible candidates must complete registration, choice filling and choice locking through the online portal.
