Assam Gets NMC Nod for Pragjyotishpur Medical College, Adding 50 MBBS Seats

In a landmark decision for the healthcare and medical education sector in Assam, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted its official approval for the establishment of the new Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital. This new institution, set to begin admissions for the academic year 2025-2026, will be a welcome addition for aspiring doctors in the state, offering an intake capacity of 50 MBBS students.

The new medical college, named after the ancient name of Guwahati, marks a significant milestone as it becomes the second medical college and hospital to be established in the city. The approval is a testament to Assam's proactive approach to addressing the persistent shortage of medical professionals and strengthening its healthcare infrastructure, particularly in rural and remote regions.

The establishment of Pragjyotishpur Medical College is a key component of a much larger vision laid out by the Assam government. Over the past five years, the state has been on an aggressive path of medical development, inaugurating several new medical institutions. This latest approval is another stride forward in the ambitious plan announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, which aims to have a total of 29 medical colleges operational across the state by 2030. This initiative is designed not only to increase the number of qualified doctors but also to make quality healthcare services more accessible to every corner of Assam.

For medical aspirants, this news is highly encouraging. The addition of 50 new seats means a higher chance of securing admission and pursuing a dream career in medicine. It reflects a growing commitment by state governments to expand educational opportunities and invest in the future of healthcare. As the admission season progresses, students and parents are advised to keep a close watch on official announcements from the state's medical education authorities regarding the counselling process for these new seats. This is a vital time to stay informed and ensure all admission requirements are met. For regular updates on medical exams, admissions, and educational news, follow Only Education News.
