By February 2, 2026, the intense admission cycle for National Law University (NLU) Delhi has reached the final stages of its second round. The Phase dedicated to the second provisional merit list, which was released on January 21, officially saw its primary activities conclude with the fee payment deadline on January 27. This Completion of the second round formalities is a prerequisite for the university to assess the remaining vacancies for the upcoming third list. Currently, the university is verifying the documents and admission letters uploaded by the second-round selectees. Detailed records of the current intake can be accessed on the Official NLU Delhi Admission Portal.

Review of the Second Allotment Phase

During this Phase, NLU Delhi offered seats to 16 candidates for the BA LLB (Hons.) program and 9 for the LLM course. The Completion of this round required candidates to follow a strict protocol to prevent the forfeiture of their provisional seats.

  • Fee Submission: Candidates listed in the second merit list had to deposit a provisional admission confirmation fee of ₹50,000 by January 27.
  • Admission Letters: Shortlisted students were required to sign each page of their provisional offer letters and re-upload them to the portal.
  • Document Audit: The Phase involved a digital review of category certificates, Class 10/12 mark sheets, and character certificates.
  • Seat Forfeiture: Any candidate who failed to pay the fee or upload the signed undertaking by the deadline has now lost their seat, facilitating the Completion of the vacancy audit for Round 3.
  • Refund Policy: The ₹30,000 (General) or ₹20,000 (Reserved) counselling registration fee remains adjusted against the total tuition for confirmed candidates

Transition to the Third Provisional Merit List

With the second Phase ending, NLU Delhi is scheduled to announce the Third Provisional Merit List on February 4, 2026, at 6:00 PM. The Completion of the second round has revealed a handful of remaining vacancies due to students opting for other National Law Universities through CLAT.

  • The upcoming list will prioritize candidates who were previously on the waitlist or in the "Invitee List" but did not receive an offer in the second Phase.
  • Aspirants should note that after the Completion of the third round, the next major update will not occur until the fourth list in May 2026.
  • All updates are strictly processed through the AILET 2026 Candidate Login.

Final Reporting and Balance Fee Deadlines

Candidates who have successfully navigated the second Phase are now considered "Provisionally Admitted." However, the final Completion of their enrollment is contingent upon the payment of the remaining balance fee in late April.

  • Balance Fee Payment: The remaining course fees (totaling approximately ₹1.35 lakhs) must be paid by April 30, 2026.
  • Hostel Allotment: NLU Delhi will notify students regarding hostel availability and fee structures by June 10, 2026.
  • Academic Session: The 2026-27 session is expected to commence in the first week of August.
  • Counselling Refunds: For candidates who registered but never received an allotment, refund processing will begin after March 15, 2026.
  • To check specific fee structures, refer to the NLU Delhi B.A.LL.B. Fee Annexure.

Conclusion

The near completion of the AILET 2026 second provisional admission phase marks a critical narrowing of the window for entry into NLU Delhi. With the January 27 fee deadline now passed, the university is preparing to distribute the final few vacancies in the third merit list on February 4. This structured approach ensures that the university maintains its full capacity while providing waitlisted candidates with a fair chance at enrollment. As the second phase of verification draws to a close, candidates must ensure their digital credentials are in order for the final fee settlement in April, ensuring their place in one of India's most prestigious legal institutions for the 2026-27 academic year.
