For law aspirants seeking to secure a place in one of the country's most elite legal institutions, the clock is ticking on a crucial deadline. The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) 2026, the sole gateway for admission to the National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi), is fast approaching its registration close. NLU Delhi, consistently ranked among the top law schools in India, offers highly coveted seats in its flagship programs: the BA.LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. courses.

The application drive officially began on August 7, 2025, giving candidates a dedicated three-month window to apply. However, with the final submission date of November 10, 2025, looming, candidates must finalize their online application and fee payment now. AILET is a uniquely challenging examination, separate from the CLAT, making its deadline and schedule a non-negotiable priority for dedicated law hopefuls.

Crucial Dates and Examination Schedule

A well-organized approach to the AILET 2026 admission cycle requires strict adherence to the official dates released by NLU Delhi.

  • Application Commencement: Online registration started on August 7, 2025.
  • Registration Closing Date: The last date to apply and complete the online application process is November 10, 2025. This date is firm, and no extensions are expected.
  • AILET 2026 Exam Date: The written entrance test is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, 2025. The exam is typically conducted in offline (pen-and-paper) mode from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
  • Admit Card Release: Admit cards are expected to be released online on the official website around the last week of November 2025.
  • Result Declaration: Results are usually declared swiftly, around the third or last week of December 2025, paving the way for the subsequent counselling and admission process in January 2026.

Eligibility and Application Process Details

To be eligible for the AILET 2026, candidates must satisfy specific academic criteria for the respective programs. The application process is entirely online, ensuring streamlined and efficient submission.

  • Undergraduate (BA.LL.B. Hons.) Eligibility:
    • Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination or an equivalent.
    • Minimum aggregate marks of 45% (for General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories) and 40% (for SC/ST categories).
    • Candidates appearing for their qualifying examination in the academic year 2026 are also eligible, subject to providing passing proof at the time of admission.

  • Postgraduate (LL.M.) Eligibility:
    • Candidates must possess an LL.B. or equivalent degree with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PwD categories).
    • There is also no upper age limit for LL.M. aspirants.
  • Online Application Steps:
    • Visit the official NLU Delhi website: nationallawuniversitydelhi.in.
    • Click on the AILET 2026 registration link and complete the initial registration with a valid email and mobile number.
    • Log in to the applicant portal and fill in the detailed application form, selecting the preferred course (BA.LL.B. or LL.M.) and three choices of exam centres.
    • Upload required documents, including a recent photograph and scanned signature.
    • Pay the application fee: ₹3,500 for General/OBC/Kashmiri Migrants/Foreign Nationals, and ₹1,500 for SC/ST/PwD candidates. SC/ST candidates belonging to the BPL category are exempted from the fee.

AILET Exam Pattern and Preparation Focus

The AILET is known for its distinct exam pattern, focusing heavily on logical ability, which mandates a specific and tailored preparation strategy for aspirants.

  • AILET 2026 UG Exam Format: The exam is a 2-hour, 150-question paper with a unique sectional distribution.
    • Total Marks: 150.
    • Marking Scheme: +1 mark for every correct answer and a negative marking of -0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
  • Sectional Distribution (BA.LL.B. Hons.):
    • English Language: 50 Questions (50 Marks). Tests vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension.
    • Current Affairs & General Knowledge: 30 Questions (30 Marks). Covers recent national and international events.
    • Logical Reasoning: 70 Questions (70 Marks). This section, which includes analytical and critical reasoning, carries the highest weightage and is often the deciding factor in the merit list.
  • Preparation Strategy Highlights: Unlike other law exams, the high weightage on Logical Reasoning demands rigorous practice in critical thinking and analytical puzzles. Candidates must prioritize daily reading of editorial and news analysis for the Current Affairs section and dedicate substantial time to solving high-level logical problems. Cracking AILET is about speed, accuracy, and strong inferential skills.

Conclusion: Final Push for NLU Delhi

AILET 2026 presents a golden opportunity for law aspirants to secure admission to the prestigious National Law University, Delhi, for its academic session beginning in 2026. Given the highly competitive nature of this single-university entrance test, timely application is the first crucial step. With the November 10, 2025, application deadline just around the corner and the exam set for December 14, now is the time for a final, intense preparation push. Aspirants are urged to visit the official NLU Delhi website immediately to complete their registration and solidify their candidature for a top-tier legal education.
