Gauhati University has officially released the shortlist for the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds for admission to its Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme for the academic session 2026-27. The much-awaited selection process will take place on June 4 and June 5, 2026, at the Department of Business Administration, Gauhati University.
Shortlist of candidates
A total of 220 candidates have been shortlisted for the next stage of admission based on their performance in the written examination conducted on April 26, 2026, along with valid scores from national-level management entrance examinations such as MAT, CAT, CMAT, XAT, and other recognised MBA entrance tests. Candidates securing 75 percentile or above in these examinations were considered eligible for shortlisting.
How Candidates are divided in Groups?
The university has divided the shortlisted candidates into 20 groups, labelled from A to T, with different reporting times and GD/PI schedules spread across the two days. Groups A to F are scheduled for the morning sessions on June 4 with reporting time at 9:00 AM, while Groups G to J will appear in the afternoon sessions with reporting time at 12:00 PM. Similarly, Groups K to T are scheduled across June 5 in morning and afternoon batches. Candidates are advised to strictly follow their assigned schedule, as failure to report at the stipulated time may result in disqualification from the admission process.
Group Discussion and Personal Interview
Candidates appearing for the GD and PI rounds must carry all original testimonials from matriculation onwards for document verification. Those who have not yet submitted graduation marksheets or caste certificates must bring them during the interview process. Additionally, candidates should carry valid photo identification, admit cards, and photocopies of all relevant documents for backup verification.
The Group Discussion round will evaluate candidates on communication skills, leadership qualities, teamwork, confidence, and logical thinking ability. The Personal Interview, on the other hand, will focus on the candidate’s academic background, work experience, career goals, and suitability for the MBA programme. Gauhati University is also expected to publish a suggestive list of GD topics on its official website before the commencement of the rounds.
Expert advice to candidates
Experts advise candidates to stay updated with current affairs, business trends, and social issues to perform well in the GD round. Preparing a clear self-introduction, revising graduation subjects, and understanding the university’s MBA programme in detail can significantly improve performance during the PI process.
