VITEEE 2026 enters final application phase before CBT window begins

As the month of March 2026 begins, the Vellore Institute of Technology is seeing a massive surge in student activity on its digital platforms. The VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) is currently in its last stretch of the application window, inviting students to secure their spot in one of India's top-ranked private universities. For the 2026 intake cycle, the university has opened slots for its campuses in Vellore, Chennai, AP, and Bhopal. Thousands of high school seniors are now rushing to the VIT admission portal to finalize their personal and academic details. This period is vital because the university follows a strict first-come-first-served logic for test center and slot selection. As the CBT phase approaches in mid-April, March is the final opportunity for students to ensure their eligibility for the highly competitive engineering stream seats.

Important Dates and Computer-Based Test Schedule

The university has published a detailed calendar to help students navigate the intake cycle for the 2026-27 session. Candidates must be mindful that once the application window closes on March 31, no new registrations will be allowed. The CBT phase is unique because it allows students to choose their own exam date and time from a range of available sessions, provided they complete their registration early on the VIT admission portal.

• Registration Deadline: The last date to submit the online application is strictly March 31, 2026.
• Slot Booking: The Online Test Booking System (OTBS) is expected to open in the first week of April 2026 for all registered candidates.
• CBT Phase Dates: The entrance examination will be conducted between April 19 and April 30, 2026, in multiple slots.
• Result Declaration: The merit list and ranks are tentatively scheduled to be released on May 5, 2026.
• Official Website: All updates and the application link are hosted on the Official VIT Website.

Mandatory Steps for Slot Booking and Document Verification

To participate in the engineering stream selection, students must successfully navigate the OTBS on the VIT admission portal. This system requires the application number and a password created during the application window. If a student fails to book their slot, the university will automatically assign one based on the availability in the 2026 intake cycle. It is also important to ensure that all documents are uploaded correctly before the CBT phase begins to avoid any identity issues at the exam hall.

• Apply Online: Use the VITEEE Application Link to fill out the form and pay the ₹1350 fee.
• Photo and Signature: Upload a recent passport-size color photo (20KB to 50KB) and a clear signature on a white background.
• Slot Selection: Choose your preferred test city, date, and time slot immediately after the OTBS link is activated.
• Admit Card: The hall ticket is generated only after a slot is successfully booked; it must be printed and carried to the center.
• Verification ID: A valid government ID like an Aadhaar card or PAN card is mandatory for entry during the CBT phase.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus for the 2026 Engineering Entrance

The VITEEE 2026 follows a comprehensive pattern that tests students on core science subjects along with English and Aptitude. As of March, students are focusing their intake cycle preparation on the VITEEE Syllabus which is largely based on the Class 12 curriculum. Since there is no negative marking, the engineering stream hopefuls are encouraged to attempt all 125 questions. The CBT phase requires a high level of speed, as students only have 150 minutes to complete the entire paper.

• Subject Split: The paper contains 35 questions each for Physics and Chemistry, 40 for Mathematics/Biology, 10 for Aptitude, and 5 for English.
• No Negative Marks: Students can answer all questions without the fear of losing marks for incorrect guesses.
• Mathematics Focus: For the engineering stream, Math is the most weighted section and often serves as the rank decider.
• Online Interface: Practicing with the official mock tests on the VIT admission portal is recommended to get used to the digital clock and navigation buttons.
• Aptitude Section: This section tests logical reasoning and is a scoring area for students who practice regularly in March.

Conclusion

The conclusion of the application window on March 31 marks the end of the administrative phase for the 2026 engineering stream aspirants. By completing your formalities on the VIT admission portal today, you ensure your entry into the CBT phase of the exam. The 2026 intake cycle is highly competitive, as VIT remains a top choice for quality technical education in India.
