The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a fresh advisory for JEE Main 2026 Session 1 aspirants.Following the rescheduling of the January 23 exam in West Bengal due to Saraswati Puja, all candidates are urged to reconfirm their exam city and strictly follow thenew reporting time instructions to ensure a smooth entry process.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a critical advisory today for students appearing in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 1. With the examination set to commence on January 21, the agency has asked all applicants to perform a final check of their city intimation slips. This announcement comes in the wake of minor logistical adjustments in several regions, most notably in West Bengal, where the January 23 exam has been rescheduled to avoid a clash with Saraswati Puja.

Revised Schedule and City Allotments

Following the recent announcement, candidates who were initially allotted slots on January 23 in West Bengal will now be assigned new dates within the existing window (January 21–29). The NTA emphasized that while most city allotments remain unchanged, students must verify their login dashboards one last time to ensure they have the most updated notification regarding their venue. This proactive check is essential to prevent any last-minute travel confusion or missed attempts.

  • West Bengal Update: All January 23 shifts in the state are moved; new dates are being visible on the portal today.
  • Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech): Scheduled for January 21, 22, 23 (outside WB), 24, and 28.
  • Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Planning): Will take place on January 29 in a single morning shift.
  • Admit Card Batches: Hall tickets are being released in a phased manner starting today, January 17, based on the exam date.

Strict Reporting and Security Protocols

To maintain the integrity of the computer-based test, the NTA has reiterated its stringent guidelines for center entry. Candidates are expected to reach the venue at least 90 minutes before the commencement of the exam to complete biometric registration and frisking. The agency has warned that the gates will close exactly 30 minutes before the start time, and no student will be allowed entry beyond that point under any circumstances.

  • Morning Shift: Entry starts at 7:30 AM; gates close strictly at 8:30 AM for a 9:00 AM start.
  • Afternoon Shift: Entry starts at 2:00 PM; gates close strictly at 2:30 PM for a 3:00 PM start.
  • Mandatory Checks: Every applicant must undergo a multi-layered security check, including Aadhaar-based biometric verification.
  • Aadhaar Mismatch: Students with name mismatches between their Aadhaar and 10th-grade certificates must carry additional government ID proof to avoid delays.

Mandatory Documents and Dress Code

A detailed notification has also been issued regarding the items permitted inside the exam hall. Beyond the printed admit card and a valid photo ID, students are only allowed to carry a transparent water bottle and a simple ballpoint pen. The guidelines also specify a strict dress code: students should wear light, half-sleeve clothing and open footwear like sandals or slippers. Metallic items, including belts, jewelry, and even digital watches, are strictly prohibited.

Conclusion

As the first session of the 2026 entrance cycle approaches, the NTA remains focused on providing a transparent and error-free experience. The recent guidelines serve as a final reminder for students to stay updated through the official website and their registered email IDs. By adhering to the designated notification and reporting times, candidates can focus entirely on their performance in one of the nation's most competitive engineering entrance exams.
