The final admission window for NIFT 2025, the Spot Round, has officially closed, marking the end of the current academic year's seat allocation. This article provides a retrospective look at the final admission process and offers crucial advice for design aspirants setting their sights on the 2026 entrance exams.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has officially closed its doors on the 2025 admission cycle. The final and much-anticipated Spot Round, a last-ditch effort to fill any remaining vacant seats, has successfully concluded, bringing the centralized counseling process to a close. For thousands of design aspirants who were on the waiting list, the Spot Round represented a final opportunity to secure a coveted seat in one of NIFT's premier undergraduate or postgraduate programs.

The official NIFT notification confirmed that the Spot Round seat allotment results were declared on August 8, 2025. This was followed by a critical phase of physical document verification and reporting at the respective allotted campuses, which took place on August 11, 2025. This step was mandatory for all candidates who received a seat in the final round, with failure to report resulting in the automatic forfeiture of the allotted seat.

What the Final Round Entailed for Aspirants

For those new to the admission process, the Spot Round is conducted after the completion of the three main counseling rounds. It is open to all eligible candidates who hold a valid Common Merit Rank (CMR), including those who were not allotted a seat in previous rounds or had withdrawn their admission.

The process for the Spot Round was as follows:

  • Registration & Fee Payment: Eligible candidates had to register for this final round and pay a mandatory participation fee. The registration window closed on August 4, 2025.
  • Choice Filling: Aspirants were given the opportunity to modify and lock their campus and course preferences. This was a critical step, as their choices, combined with their merit rank, determined their final seat allocation. The deadline for choice filling was August 6, 2025.
  • Seat Allotment: The final seat allotment was declared on August 8, 2025, based on the submitted preferences and the availability of vacant seats.
  • Physical Reporting: The most crucial part of this round was the mandatory in-person physical verification of documents at the allotted NIFT campus on August 11, 2025. This final step sealed the admission.

Essential Documents for Verification

For the physical reporting on August 11, 2025, every allotted candidate was required to carry a specific set of documents for verification. The admission letter clearly stated that any discrepancy or missing document could lead to the cancellation of the seat. The required documents typically included:

  • Provisional Admission Letter: A printed copy of the provisional letter received after online fee payment.
  • Academic Transcripts: Original and self-attested copies of 10th and 12th class mark sheets and certificates.
  • Admit Card & Scorecard: The original NIFT entrance exam admit card and the final scorecard.
  • Category Certificates: Valid and self-attested copies of SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/EWS/PwD certificates, if applicable, in the prescribed format.
  • Identity Proof: A valid government-issued ID card like an Aadhaar Card or Passport.
  • Medical Fitness Certificate: A certificate from a registered medical practitioner.
  • Undertaking: Other mandatory undertakings, such as the anti-ragging affidavit, were also required.

What’s Next for Aspirants

With the 2025 admission cycle officially over, the focus now shifts to the upcoming batch of design aspirants preparing for the 2026 entrance exams. This is a perfect time for future applicants to begin their preparation. While it's important to understand the process for the last academic year, it's equally crucial to start preparing for the next one.

Prospective students should begin by:

  • Understanding the Exam Pattern: Familiarize yourselves with the NIFT exam structure, including the General Ability Test (GAT) and the Creative Ability Test (CAT).
  • Building a Portfolio: Start working on a creative portfolio that showcases your skills and unique perspective.
  • Staying Updated: Keep track of the official NIFT website for the release of the 2026 information brochure and important dates, including the application and exam schedule.
