The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi has announced the launch of a new, highly specialized undergraduate program: B.Tech. in Computer Science and Economics (CSEcon). This pioneering four-year degree is designed to prepare a new generation of professionals uniquely skilled at the intersection of advanced computational techniques and economic theory, catering to the rapidly evolving digital economy.
The institute has commenced the admission process for the inaugural batch, which will have a selective intake of just 20 seats. This limited number highlights the program's focus on providing rigorous, high-quality interdisciplinary training. Admission to the B.Tech. CSEcon program will be merit-based, primarily through the candidate's score in the JEE Main examination, followed by the Joint Admission Counselling (JAC) Delhi process, in line with the institute's other B.Tech. offerings.
Eligibility and Application Process for Aspirants
Aspiring students must meet specific academic prerequisites to be considered for this competitive program. The essential eligibility criteria require candidates to have secured a minimum of 70% aggregate marks in five subjects in their Class 12 examination (or equivalent board), which must include Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Furthermore, candidates must have secured at least 70% marks in Mathematics in Class 12.
The application procedure for B.Tech. CSEcon will be conducted through the JAC Delhi counselling portal, utilizing the JEE Main scores. Aspirants are strongly advised to check the official IIIT Delhi and JAC Delhi websites regularly for the specific counselling schedule, seat allocation updates, and detailed admission brochure for the academic year. Given the limited number of seats, competition is expected to be very high.
A Future-Focused Curriculum
The new B.Tech. CSEcon program aims to equip graduates to tackle complex real-world problems in sectors like Fintech, E-commerce, Banking, Consulting, and Data Science. The curriculum is structured to provide a solid foundation in the first two years with core courses in Computer Science, Economics, and Mathematics.
The latter half of the program allows students to delve into advanced and specialized learning through a wide range of electives. These include interdisciplinary subjects like "Econometrics with Machine Learning," as well as specialized courses in "Behavioral Economics," "Financial Economics," and "Statistical Machine Learning." This blended curriculum ensures students develop both the theoretical understanding of markets and the computational skills necessary to build and analyze digital solutions.
This launch reinforces IIIT Delhi's commitment to offering forward-looking programs that align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing interdisciplinary education to meet the demands of a technology-driven global marketplace.
